I think it's funny how we've politicized rape and sexual assault. How we can get so angry when one person does it, while so forgiving when someone else does the same.
Republicans demand Al Franken resign due to a picture that surfaced from him fake groping a women 30 years or so ago.
Republicans dismiss a woman's claim of sexual assault because it's inconvenient to getting a guy into the Supreme Court. And hey, they were just kids. These things happen.
That is grossly dishonest. Franken's transgressions and Kavanaugh's alleged transgressions are no where
close to the same. There's photographic evidence of Franken assaulting the woman, and numerous other allegations. He apologized to his victim, which she accepted. He also apologized to his other victims and said he doesn't remember it that way, "sorry you feel so bad", essentially.
Republicans dismiss Ford's claim because it's not credible. At all. Period. The only other person alleged to have witnessed Kavanaugh's "crime" denied it ever happened or that Kavanaugh has ever behaved that way. Instead of apologizing for it, Kavanaugh categorically denied it and is willing to testify in front of the senate. Kavanaugh's accuser couldn't remember date, place, or time of the "event", and never mentioned it to a single person for 30 years after it happened. Her current recollection of the "event" doesn't match up with her therapist's record of her rendition from 6 years ago. She refuses to testify before congress, in closed or open hearings. It's nothing more than a tawdry, conveniently timed allegation that is completely unsubstantiated. Her only proof is a very subjective polygraph administered by someone she hired, and according to the Washington Post, said she was "being truthful when she said a statement summarizing her allegations was accurate." The hell does that mean? "You say he assaulted you, is that correct?" "Yes it is." "good, looks like you're telling the truth!" I could just as credibly accuse you of sexual assault.
Tarred for life? Really? Bill Clinton enjoyed almost universal defense from Democrats. As did his wife, who did more than anyone to smear his victims. Only since the start of #metoo have Democrats started to make any uncomfortable noises when Clinton's lechery is brought up. Conversely, there's a sizeable number of Republicans, myself included, who count themselves "Never Trumpers" and think he's unfit for office due in part to his history of sexual misconduct.

The only real difference is that direct evidence.
I will admit that the allegations are pretty weak, but it always seems to me that standards are changed the moment one's political affiliation comes into play. Just look at the Republican backlash surrounding Roy Moore vs. Franken for a good example of that.

Guess we've all got double standards. These days, defending Bill is pretty indefensible in and of itself, given the circumstances.
I think we need to accept the fact that finding evidence of sexual misconduct in Washington is like blind firing a loaded gun at a bunch of animals in a crowded zoo.

Not quite sure what you mean. The majority of the republican senate called for Moore to step aside, and McConnell said he'd initiate formal ethics charges and have him expelled if he won. Trump was supportive, IIRC. Naturally. Fox probably was. I never watch, so I dont know.

So what do you think should be done re: Kavanaugh?

There's what they say, and what they do. We've already seen how far they're willing to go when Trump steps out of line. Considering the fact Moore was something of a darling of the always dreaded Base, and had Trump's signature of approval, the most you'd likely see them doing is offering a rather sheepish "I take exception to your words and actions, sir."
Take the recent hooplah over Puerto Rico. DeSantis had the gall to disagree with Trump on the issue, and there he went, tearing Desantis a new asshole on social media during the run ups to the primaries. If there's too much at stake, they won't do shit.

Honestly, I haven't been paying that much attention to the Kavanaugh hearing. I've pretty much assumed he was a future justice the moment he was nominated, and all the democrats can do is throw a stink for the voting public. I imagine the whole ordeal will sway a few independent votes towards the democrats, solidify a few votes for among the hardline republicans, and Kavanaugh will be sitting in SCOTUS before the end of next month.

Ahem. Lie detector test. Do it again for Dr. Ford and for Kavanaugh. Have it done by current FBI this time. BTW she was more specific about place than somewhere in the county. It was Georgetown. I've been to Georgetown and it ain't that big but it is very similar in all the houses. I can see a 15 year old not being observant enough to be able to pin down a particular house there. Mind you, I do think this is being used to delay a vote, but I'm not so quick to discount her story. People recall who they were with way more than any other feature of a particular incident. Like I said, lie detect them all. Hell, do it for all congress while we are at it. Cleaners in Washington would be besieged with shit stained pants the next day.
