@Thirith
well I can only talk about what I see around me now can I ?
Those are the most-played or most-wanted games for everyone I know owning a PS2. I'd agree that there seems to be a tendency to divide in two categories : those who mostly play jrpgs+japanese action games and those who play sports+gta+cars but for many of them the line is tenuous and they'll take from both.
I mean goddammit, when I visit someone who owns a PS2 I secretely hope to god that they have ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Second Sight (...) - those I'd really like to try. And I'm disappointed every time.

Don't bring up the garbage PS2 port of Resident Evil 4 again. Only the Gamecube and Wii versions are worth discussing.
@Briareos H:-
Quit being an idiot by pre-judging and writing off entire with broad generalisations. You haven't even played a particular game for a decent length of time, then you aren't any position to judge it and should shut the fuck up.

I be hating precisely because I have played all those games, my pretty.

*I register almost all jRPGs, games like Bully, GTA, Guitar Hero, skate sims, things like that as games for children or teenagers. It does not mean they are bad or that adults can't play them.
I'm sorry, but
what?! That must be one of the strangest examples of circular logic that I've seen in a long time. By that measure, can you tell me what those best-selling PC games are that are games for adults?

I'll name known games: Doom, Quake, Descent, C&C, Warcraft/Starcraft, Fallout, Mafia, Half-Life, Deus Ex, HMM, Witcher, Stalker, Crysis etc. etc.
The line between kiddie and not kiddie is rather fuzzy, yes, but I thought I made it clear what I meant. I find it strange that someone can't make a difference between PS2 games with child characters with huge eyes or other teenager themes (like GTA or Guitar Hero) and normal PC games.
*Yes, I count GTA as a game based on teens themes (cars, girls, music, aimless violence - the cocktail is the meaning of the series, unlike Mafia)

I'm sorry, but what you're saying here is deeply silly. Is
Scarface teen-oriented? Is
Goodfellas a teen movie?
If you talk about big-eyed characters, there's a fair number of people who finds the
Warcraft aesthetics cartoony and childish.
How is
Guitar Hero teen-themed? Much of the music in the series is squarely aimed at people who like '70s and '80s rock - how many teenagers do so, and how many 25-35 year old gamers do?
Doom,
Quake,
Crysis: what makes these mature? especially
Doom's aesthetic is pretty much adolescent. What next - will you call
Gears of War 'adult'?
And hand-picking a couple of games that arguably are 'mature' while ignoring all the games on the PC that would fit your pretty arbitrary kid/teen segment: you could do that with any platform.
You're obviously entitled to your opinion - but you seem to think that it's actually coherent, which it isn't, I'm afraid. You pack games into the teen category willy-nilly, with little rhyme or reason.

Zuma, Bejeweled and The Sims would like to say that the PC can be just as 'childishly' oriented as a console can.

Playing at all must be for kids. 'Kiddie games' HA in the end you are playing a game. Kids play games, adults suffer life. And now I am going to pet my virtual dog.

Let's face it, his list is just arbitrary. I might just as well call
Futurama childish (ooh, look, they've got big eyes!) or heavy metal album covers adult (ooh, look, there's blood and demons!).

I find it hilarious when some adult dude says the games are meant for kids, and then the same dude sits for 6 hours straight watching sport programs or some exceptionally stupid movies. Saying that playing games must be for kids IMO is the same as saying that any entertainment must be for kids.
