I'm sorry, but what you're saying here is deeply silly. Is
Scarface teen-oriented? Is
Goodfellas a teen movie?
Don't you really discern a difference between Scarface or Goodfellas and GTA when in comes to the bottom line?
They use similar themes but
handling of the themes and purpose is different.

If you talk about big-eyed characters, there's a fair number of people who finds the
Warcraft aesthetics cartoony and childish.
The line is fuzzy, but when aesthetics of almost any jRPG is compared with aesthetics of Warcraft, the jRPGs win virtually every prize in category 'best tailored for children'. You can't seriously deny that.

How is
Guitar Hero teen-themed? Much of the music in the series is squarely aimed at people who like '70s and '80s rock - how many teenagers do so, and how many 25-35 year old gamers do?
Doom,
Quake,
Crysis: what makes these mature? especially
Doom's aesthetic is pretty much adolescent. What next - will you call
Gears of War 'adult'?
Don't take "for kids" and "for adults" literally. You can't deny that developers of PS2 games generally aimed at less adult audience than developers of PC games. Statistics dictated that.

Yes, they handle the themes differently - but not in an inherently more teen-/child-oriented way. I'd even argue that
GTA uses satire in a way that is untypical for usual teen fare. They also use pretty sophomoric humour at times, but that's true of the comedic output in many media - which doesn't automatically make it "for teens". The same is true for lots of stuff that would seem to be aimed squarely at 18-35 year old males.

Of course I can. There's a considerable difference even between certain series - look at the stylistic differences between, say,
Final Fantasy IX and
Final Fantasy XII. I'm not a big expert in Japanese culture, but I know that you find the big-eyed, fuzzy aesthetic also in pretty grown-up manga and anime, e.g. Osamu Tezuka's
Buddha.

I'd estimate that at least 80% of all PC games are aimed primarily at an 18-35 male audience. Few of these games are mature in any meaningful way - they are marketed in a way that a 16-year old guy gets excited about: T&A, lots of violence, lots of explosions, heavy emphasis on Awesome Coolness!!!!1!1 Yes, there are some PC games that are aimed at a more mature audience, but the largest part is still pretty much aimed at the stereotypical fratboy community.

242 you are just talking utter nonsense.

It's the gist of the debate after all.

Except it isn't. There's no debate here. You're making claims with arguments that are all over the page, arbitrary and generally silly.

I'll repeat, so you don't agree that PS2 developers generally aimed at less mature audience than developers of PC games? You seem to delicately avoid straight and clear answer.
And out of curiosity if your answer is yes, do you also deny that PS2 owners age statistics does play an important role in development for the platform?

I would disagree with you that there's considerably more PS2 developers aiming their titles at a less mature audience than PC developers, yes. I thought I'd made that point earlier, but perhaps it wasn't clear to you.
Age statistics play an important role in development for any platform. That much is obvious. I simply don't see all the evidence you cite for PS2 games generally being aimed at a younger audience, and from the titles you mentioned, I pretty much disagree with your assessment from what makes a title kid- or teen-oriented vs. what makes a title mature.
Never mind that it's silly to use
GTA as an example of "PS2 games are for kids!" since the last few
GTA titles (excluding
The Lost and Damned or whatever it was called) were big hits on PC as well.
Guitar Hero III and
GH: World Tour both came out on PC. Never mind that
Deus Ex was ported for one console: the PS2...

Even though the most of PS2 games are clearly for children
If you can find one other person who isn't clearly an idiot to concur with you on this I'll be surprised.
Yes, you are talking nonsense.
I mean... wtf? We occasionally get some odd views expressed here but this takes the biscuit. How is "big eyes" aimed at children? Most manga characters have huge eyes, regardless of how adult the subject matter of the manga.
You've named GTA and Guitar Hero, neither of which are aimed purely at kids. GTAIII and up are all BBFC 18 rated games in the UK too, and rated as mature in other countries.
Malf is on the money with his Mario comment. YOU, 242, may see Mario games as for kids but I see them as just fun games. They don't have adult themes, and they are created to be a little bit cute but they sure are hella fun. If bright colours and fun = kiddie to you I think we'd better be sending you off to a re-education camp because you need some. Education that is.

OK, I'll change that:
Even though the most of PS2 games are clearly oriented to children and teens. Most of PC games also may be oriented to teens, but the percentage is certainly bigger in the case of PS2 games.
It doesn't mean those games aren't fun or that adults can't play them.
Smile SE, you seem to be pretty out of temper.
