I saw an article on the game and LOVE the concept. Only thing is I went to sleep thinking about the specifics of the world of ARX and have some questions. Yes, this is a post about the PLOT rather than runes or graphics. First, I know we are talking about a world with magic, but if the sun actually goes out wouldent the atmosphere actually freeze into air-snow? Might it be better to say "A great winter covers all of ARX."? Second, I can see a great ice age driving all the races underground, LOVE the concept...but where do they grow their food? Giant glowing caverns? Do they farm both crops and plants down there? What about structures that use wood? It would seem the initial structures (those built first and closer to the surface) would have been using things from the surface, like wood. Those deeper, and hence later, would be carved out of pure rock..with the upper world frozen there is no wood. I'm assuming you plan to solve the light problem by introducing somekind of magical light source?
Who desended first into the depths? Your evil races I would assume, driven there by the good races before the freezing. Were there titanic battles as the remaining light races fought their way into the underground kingdoms of those they despised? If so you would see A LOT of towns and cities that at first glance appear human but in fact are of another races design entirely.
I know these seem like non important issues, but a well thought out background, even in a world that uses magic, can go long way in making it believeable.

Hello Visceral Monkey (nice nic, btw), you seem like someone who also believes that magic needs to follow a believable physics system.
Welcome!!

Hi Visceral Monkey,
I love Austin, you're very lucky to live there

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifYou've posted a very interesting message actually. All the questions you asked have answers, reading your post reminded me all the design meetings we've had (and still have), we've been going through all these questions before and we too had the same interrogations. Obviously I won't bring any of these answers here today, as I think it's better for you to find out when playing the game, but I can assure you that the answers exist...
