So I'm trying to play Thief Gold again.. but I just can't get into it. And I've never beaten the game (yes.. sad I know), which is what I want to do. Maybe I just need more patience, or maybe I've played the early levels way too many times. Any suggestions? It is a pretty old game.. but I can still get into System Shock II, and stuff like that. Eh.. maybe I've just grown away from it.

Did you ever LOVE Thief? Did you ever get a kick out of any aspect of the Thief universe or storyline? If not, then it's just probably not your thing. Sell it to a needy taffer for the price of a water arrow. I'd buy it, if I could.:p

Yea, it used to be my favorite game for the longest time (yea.. and I never beat it.. sad..). And I played through about half of Thief: Deadly Shadows when that came out (got side tracked by something else). I think it may be because I've just played through the beginning levels way too many times. I played through about 2/3 or Thief Gold half year ago or so, and I was getting into it on the levels I hadn't played before. But then I formatted my computer and forgot to back up the saves (whoops).

You need to skip to about half-way through. Definitely

Yeah, just CTRL ALT ShIFT END, through to the first level you haven't completed.

or the solution might be to immerse yourself in it some more. Set up the correct conditions - close the currents, turn off the lights, set the brightness on you monitor correctly - buy an EAX sound card, play wearing head phones - force yourself to watch the intro movies and the mission briefs - a little apreciated fact is that thief is only half the game without the mission briefing movies... from my experiance it is the number one cause of people becoming bored and disaffected before finishing the complete game.

Wear a hooded top while playing, sounds naff but it really adds to the experience, I think.
... maybe I should get out more often

Must try that.

yeah, i never play during the day anymore. part of that is because the glare is too strong (covering up my windows only goes so far.)
i also like waiting until the first hints of fall before i play through the whole series (i rarely play a game out of sequence, if it's in a series, unless it's something like castlevania or resident evil.) somehow a late september chill only adds to the experience.

And be sure to play Autumn in Lampfire Hills if you're going to do that fall-time approach!
