And his reasons as to why the Netherlands - Spain match is supposedly
so much different don't hold much water, either.
Well, no, Spain deserved the trashing, from Netherlands more than from anyone. I think it's pretty clear. They beat 'em last time so now they're taking their rage out. With brazil... yeeah, too much, but I agree with Tomi, it's something to remember and something to hopefully give fuel and drive to brazil in the future. If they take it as
constructive criticism or something of the sort. And... foaming mouths? Lol.
Anyway the Argentina - Holland game is (as somewhat expected) just dull - almost full credit to Argentina. I don't think they've played a single interesting game in this tournament. Just make a 1 goal difference in their favor and then camp. Control the ball. Pass it around. Control some more. It's a shame Holland can't get the ball that much this game. If Argentina does get to the finale I'm not even sure it'll be worth watching, lest Germany does the brazil treatment on them, which I highly doubt.
Argentina reminds me of Spain in just how dull (or... soporific (as google suggests to me) to change the wording) they play. So I guess Argentina might just win.
Edit: Ok, I'm being too harsh on spain, they were pretty intersting next to Argentina. I think only Iran might've been about as boring as Argentina in this cup.

Looking forward to see Germany beaten by whatever opponent they will face in the final. :cheeky:
Reason: all those soccer freaks in the streets and in my company that have tears running down their faces if their team (local or national) was defeated. :ebil:
JESUS !
I would not loathe soccer all that much if it wasn't for that sort of people.
All those grown-up folks should know better what is important in life and what is not.
Over and out.

It's not like you couldn't argue this about the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_FIFA_World_Cup_Final) Brazil - Germany match too, though...
Anyway. Agree on Argentina - Netherlands so far. Pretty dull. Let's see who pulls through in the end.
Also, many thanks to gnartsch' riveting contribution to this thread.

Okay, but that was a different generation, and the defeat wasn't as bad.
..
Well, the better team lost. Here's hoping germany rapes these new killers of football.
What a bummer. :(

Well that was pretty dull. I like Holland but I kind of like that it's a Europe vs South America final.
Fwiw gnartsch I can't stand those people either. I have friends who care far, far too much about football and I'm all for passions and hobbies but once it reaches a certain point it becomes pathetic.

what is OTT is likening the German team to "Obersturmbannführer" on a "Blitzkrieg" "foaming at their mouths".
Well, I didn't see the full match. Only the goals. Only parts of it. But I did see the last 30 minutes in real-time. The match was over. But the German players seemed pretty fanatical. Maybe it was the adrenaline. Maybe it was the surprise. But someone, the coach maybe, could have let them behave a bit nicer.
About the exaggerations. Yes, they are exaggerations. Of course football players are no soldiers in the old Nazi-army. And of course football is not war. On the Internet, people sometimes exaggerate.
Gonna be a nice final on Sunday. 200 Million Brazilians that want both the Germans and the Argentinians to lose.
Holland was back to their old self tonigth. Playing ok, but not being able to score. I just can't understand why everybody is so enthousiastic about Van Persie. I never watch football during the regular year. Not even 2 minutes. I only watch Eurocups and Worldcups. And in those, besides that one header against Spain, I have never, ever never seen Van Persie do something nice. But all of Holland, and half of Europe seem to think he's a starplayer. Keeping Van Persie in during the last 2 matches wasn't smart imho. But what do I know.
Also, it seemed they handled the penalties much smarter against Costa Rica. Letting Vlaar take the first penalty was already a mistake. Bringing in Krul as goalie against Costa Rica was more bluff than brilliancy. It turns out that Krul has only stopped 2 out of 20 penalties he got last season. You can hardly call him a penalty-killer. But you know what, it turns out Cillissen hasn't even stopped a single penalty in all of his professional career. :)
BTW, I just saw this. A Football Game of Ice and Fire.

I kind of get what Gryz is saying. It's the host team and you've already caned them at 5-0. The last 2 goals were entirely superfluous I'll bet if you ask the German team now they'd say "Yeah, that was probably a bit OTT".
I've thought the same as Gryzemius before now but have changed my mind. It might be safe to pull back at 5-0 against Brazil but to me it's down to what is more humiliating - being trounced by a team going all out or trounced by a team not even trying.

I've seen Van Persie do great things when he was at Arsenal - beautiful goals and assists. But I've not really seen anything of him at Manchester United - I don't watch them at all.

There's exaggerations, and then there's insults. You should think hard about the differences.

Well, football amateur that I am, I'll be rooting for Germany, just because I like it generally these days. People are being partisan about the Brazil loss so I actually don't want to have any real opinion on it other than it'll be memorable of course. I'm not one to be very partisan about sports anyway, or even politics for that matter.
I'm actually sitting in Frankfurt's airport right now on layover and there's some buzz around that's fun to see. Not the kook level that you guys are mentioning though.
