I want to go back to two very old (early/mid90's) games, as the older the game, the bigger the compliment, I feel. One of these games will be very well known, the other probably not (outside of this forum). Funnily enough, for the forum we are in, they are both Looking Glass games...!
The well known one is the first System Shock. Running in 1024x768 in VGA makes the games amazing, even today. The art direction still grabs you by the balls from the get-go, even after all these years!
The less well known LG game that still stands up is Terra Nova: Task Force Centauri. Th FMV is intentionally cheesy, making them still good today, and the open vista;s, with reflective water showing the clouds in the sky reflected in the water, the rolling hills and the generally huge open air distant horizons are still very striking even today.
I sill play both these games regularly, for the story, the characters, the gameplay, but yes, the graphics too. The art direction in both these games are incredible and make you wonder how LG didn't become the Bioware or Blizzard of today!

there is a dedicated forum for both of those games here.

I have never been able to get Tera Nova to run properly. I would love to check it out sometime.

Blame Daikatana. The old rumoured story tells that Eidos chose to funnel money into Ion Storm rather than keep LGS afloat.

"The Bioware or Blizzard of today" is a terrible fate for a company anyway.

No-one has said Speedball 2, and that is a shame.

I meant in terms of being well known and with plenty of money and basically sill a PC publisher predominantly.

Well, it's gone multiformat, like lots of ex PC companies, and that has led to a decline in intelligence in their games and more action than RPG, but they do still pretty much release a PC version of every game thy release, and of course, their early games were PC only, so when you look at their catalogue over the last 10 years or so, it is still predominantly PC releases.
I do accept though, that the trend shows Bioware to be console only sooner rather than later. Maybe in the medium term shipping out PC versions of their console games via third party developers.
