One of the things I enjoy the most about many of the old Looking Glass games is the fact that unexpected things happened in them quite often, due to the open-ended nature of the gameplay. To this day, I'm still surprised by some of the things that happen in the first two Thief games (whereas with Thief: DS, I felt as if I had seen everything the game had to offer after 2-3 playthroughs).
Case in point: recently I did the "Shipping and Receiving" mission. Feeling somewhat lazy, I just ran around the warehouses, making as much noise as possible. Naturally, a bunch of the guards chased me. I ran to the pirate ship and climbed atop the crate that houses the two spiders, so that I was out of reach of the guards (many of whom were now aboard the ship's deck). Out of curiosity, I leaned over and opened up the door, letting the two spiders out. Every time I play this mission I would always do the pirate ship stuff last, after I had neutralized all the guards, and I was curious to see how the spiders would react to other humans.
Well, the spiders ran out and the guards began chasing them around the deck, trying in vain to slice them, but their swords never connected. At other times, the spiders would chase them around the deck, which was very amusing to watch. One guard fell off the gang plank that leads onto the ship and drowned. Others kept injuring each other with their swords as they tried to slash the spiders in vain. One guard hit one of the fire barrels which caused a chain of explosions. Damn, I wish I had taken screenshots, it was hilarious to watch.
I just find it funny that a game I played eight years ago can still surprise me like that.

Yep. :thumb:
One of the joys of being a Thief fan is knowing that we have yet to find an end to the list of pleasant surprises! Nice to hear when someone shares these gaming moments.

Sometimes, you just have to run through it again. Replay value, priceless.

True dat. Causing a gang war on the main street (forgot the name) of THC is always a blast. Will the burricks, the zombies, or the spiders win?
Long time no see Sypha! :)

I've been around fett... here and there, just not as frequent (last Comm Chat thread I posted in was the "Cloverfield" one IIRC).
BrokenArts, I try to replay the two Thief games at least once a year (same for Deus Ex). Though sometimes I might just load one of the Thiefs up and do a certain mission.
