And the cmd files can be put in a subfolder, and menus.cfg will need to be modified so it calls cmds\thing.cmd rather than just thing.cmd.
Combine that with fibanocci's suggestion to organize things with FMSel and your folder will become much more clean.

Not sure what pushed Ricebug to such a desperate action like deleting files which are part of the original install, but...
Yes! Pushed to the edge! Driven to desperation and despair. Ready to slit my wrists! You may want to call the SWAT team, since I've also deleted all of the movies and mission files. Gimme a fricking break.
I have the T2 install fully intact. But in my 10 or 12 work directories, I've gotten rid of anything associated with the OMs. Not everyone has 5 TBs of hard drive space like I do. I was wanting to advise anyone reading the walkthrough, who may NOT have an AlienWare machine, to put the OSM files back in there.

like I do.Errr... so you're saying you deleted the OSMs because you
didn't have to delete them? And that you want to document which FMs require OSMs for the benefit of those players who have a dozen installs of Thief, including a fully intact one, but who for some reason choose to play FMs out of one of the expurgated installs?
BTW, even a 1TB drive could hold nearly a thousand full installs of Thief 2. At a "mere" ~1GB, there really is no use case these days for trimming down the install on modern hardware.

It would be more productive to tell those people who want cut-down installs how to make them properly.
In a nutshell, you make a "data" folder, and move Movies, Res, and all the .mis, .gam and .osm files into there, along with motiondb.bin.
You then either set that up as the data path in all of your installs, and/or symbolic-link the folder into each of your installs.
Default install data is only on the disk once, but is accessible and shared by all Thief installs.
That is the proper, orderly, efficient and way to make multiple installs. It's also really hard to break by messing around in the installs themselves, since there are no files that need to be backed up or replaced when installing FMs, for example.

@Ricebug - I'm still not understanding why you deleted all the OM files. You said you have plenty of disk space (5 TBs) - so why delete them? I've never heard of anyone deleting these files, so I'm not sure why you are assuming people are doing it. It's so completely random and out of the blue, like reminding people to reinstall the battery in their wireless mouse before starting the game.
I think it's far more confusing to tell people to return files to their main installation directory, when you have no idea if they've deleted them or not in the first place. Same thing with telling them that "this mission requires miss7.osm." That's just going to drive inexperienced users to scramble around and try to find a download source for a file they already have in their Thief install by default.

@Nameless Voice - thanks for that post - sounds like a neat idea.
