The trailer really didn't suggest anything even remotely supernatural to me. Although it did look very interesting.
So...you
agree it's all in his mind? Strong
delusions of supernatural events of this kind would still have the same horrifying impact, regardless. A little
Jacob's Ladder in there? Maybe he's been drugged. I haven't read the book.

Yeah looks like a visual representation of someone going nuts to me. :cheeky:

The same with Session 9, basically there was nothing supernatural in there either. Thief and other computer games could still arrive at this kind of quality. What's really scary are somehow unnatural humans, not monsters. :p I think that's why puppets or relief faces (like in the Cradle) or the strangely-behaving characters in Kafka stories are so creepy.

I know it's just me, but I never thought of the non-human creatures of Thief as monsters, just the local fauna. The only things that scared me were the actual threats to Garrett's life, stumbling on them without warning, and unexpected moves like seeing the spiders jump for the first time. I didn't find the Maw scary, just grotesque. The Haunts were the only human-like beings that I was most scared of during the first playthrough.

I never thought Scorsese would make something like this.
Seconded, looks like it will be good.

Even if there isn't much supernatural going on, I still think it captures much of the atmosphere. Mental asylum, overarching management conspiracy, skeletal patients who may or may not be crazy ...
If it turns out to largely be his imagination, I'm gonna be peeved. That's a crap cop-out.
Last movie I remember Sorcese doing with DiCaprio was The Departed, and that pretty much took the critics by storm.

Without knowing anything about the plot how can you claim that? A well-crafted psychological thriller generally requires a lot more from the filmmakers and the viewer than a zombie/ghost bog standard horror movie.

You're right. It's more my personal preference. I just feel like so many ghost stories end with the pompous "It was really all in his head" climax that I'm ready for a thriller that actually goes the other way. I want a psychological thriller where it turns out that the ghost is real; that would be a kick-ass twist.

I fail to see a major connection between the movie and and cradle...
The cradle wasn't even an asulym.

You're right, it was a fun fair.
