I want to like it, I really do. But I shoulda known this would be a "safe" return to original Far Cry setting with a bunch of unwanted Call of Duty shit thrown in for good measure, after I was one of about 5 people who really, really liked Far Cry 2.
Also, not that I really care, but isn't Far Cry as a series known for pushing the graphical envelope. This looks marginally worse than Far Cry 2...
The developer interview makes me a bit sad. We made Far Cry 2, we loved it, then we went online and saw some children with ADD complaining about it, so we pandered to them!

Boss is a pretty great character. :D (ok the last time he says his line is one too many, they could've left it out the second time he said it, and it would've had a greater effect at the end)
Yes it looks very setpiecey, but those are two great setpieces. Also this is obviously the beginning of the game so it's naturally gonna be more setpiece-heavy than the rest of the game.
I couldn't be bothered playing all the way through FC1. Played through FC2 twice(loved it). This one looks pretty good so far. It looks pretty, the combat looks fun, and the antagonist is intriguing.

Yeah, I haven't been this intrigued by a game character in quite a while. It's not like the tech is
that impressive either. I mean, there is some nice touches with the animation but it's mostly down to good writing* and a great voice acting performance.
I only completed Far Cry 2 recently and really liked it, particularly the combat, driving and the feel of the world, despite a whole lot of unbelievably stupid design decisions. It looks like they're fixing a lot of those up but they're also going a bit far in some places e.g. completely removing weapon degradation vs just making it less aggressive. I had plenty of brilliantly tense moments where my gun jammed on me and I had to scramble to safety while unjamming the sonofabitch. It's part of what I loved about
Far Cry 2, the way things could go to shit in a variety of ways, and I hope they haven't forgotten that.
*On a side note: did anyone else think that
Far Cry 2's writing, as far as dialog goes, was actually pretty good? The story was absolute balls of course but dialog had a good feel to it and I liked how they got the personalities of the buddies across with relatively little dialog. Shame about the ridiculous voice acting though.

Looks good to me, and I don't give a fuck who knows it!

A sad sign of the times at ttlg when far cry 2 is dismissed as bullshit and cod still attracts interest and positive mutterings. Is all you want out of games a mildly interactive rollercoaster or ghost train?
From what i played of far cry 2 (which is admittedly not a lot) it was at least interesting and tried to create a relatively engaging gameplay experience. Of course i didn't really experience the plot or side-quest grinding but the general depth of the world seemed interesting and it was free-form.
Main enemy character looks rather shallow to me - giving off and impression of false depth and a gimmick.
Scriptedness looks annoying but game gives the impression that there will be at least some decent exploration.
Could be reasonable overall, just a bit disappointing that it follows the fads of mainstream development.
Still, at least it won't be homefront.

I don't think many of us really hate Far Cry 2, just feel that it was mediocre and had potential that wasn't used. It had a great open-world design, and passably interesting characters and story, but was crippled by a few idiotic design decisions, namely the everyone-always-tries-to-kill-you AI and the utter lack of fighting between the two factions that are supposedly at war.

I completely agree. I find myself loving the idea of Far Cry 2 more than the game itself. Brilliant concepts marred by some utterly idiot design choices (the biggest of which you brought up: despite a huge civil war going on it seems the only one being shot at is you).
