I'm interested and I do like the premise. Boss seems like an interesting character too (not interesting in the objective sense, like for a film or a book, but for a game, pretty interesting). I still need to pick FC2 back up which, despite its flaws, I was enjoying for its atmosphere.

That trailer makes the game seem more interesting than the other footage I've seen.
Have you seen the (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeWbIxkyGrk) E3 footage then?
This new trailer is weaksauce, it has no style, horribad music and I'd like to know how some random shlob is supposed to slaughter entire island of crazy-ass mercs. Unless of course he is some kind of former Special Ops Scpace Shuttle Door Gunner(hurrrrr).

He's the estranged son of Gordon Freeman, it's in his genes. There, plot hole filled.
Seriously though, didn't they say at some point that he had an ex-military background of some kind?

I can't wait to play as someone just like my target demographic.

I actually really like the set up presented in this trailer. It seems like the story of a douchebag who gets a terrifying wakeup call about the worst of humanity. If they don't chicken out on the brutality and war crimes aspects, this could be one hell of a game.
And I wouldn't worry about the shit music, that's just marketing people looking at demographic charts.

Yeah, I was a little put out when it became apparent I was going to be playing one of those 'dude, bro' douchebags but there is, as you say, a lot of potential if they really commit to premise. Probably not very likely but there is some hint of it in the trailer (that was his friend getting shot in front of him, right?). He also better not turn into some kind of 'white crusader' for the oppressed people on the island. It'd be fine to have him get caught up in the struggle and fight
alongside them but if he turns into some kind of leader I will be all
We still don't know much about the game though do we? I suppose it's save to assume it's going to a fairly open FPS being that it's a
Far Cry game but how much is the scripting going to interfere? I'm not against scripting (I think
Far Cry 2 could have done with a little bit more here and there to punch up the main storyline) but, given current trends, that E3 footage was a little worrying.
faetal on 17/2/2012 at 11:07
How well did Far Cry 2 sell? If it fell beneath expectations, then I imagine that they'll at least be using a table of common criticisms of it as a check list of things to avoid in FC3. Hopefully no babies will be getting tossed out with bathwater though...

its really about the multiplayer anyway, Far Cry was awesome, Farcry2, good, but not great
gunsmoke on 17/2/2012 at 13:52
Goddamn, FarCry had amazing multiplayer.
