* "(:eww:)"
* While that mod looks good and interesting, call me an old fuck but I thought a large part of Outcast's appeal was the voxel engine. I miss voxel games, I can honestly do with a smaller resolution.
I'll try it anyway.

I'm thinking "deranged lunatic" makes more sense here than "old fuck". Maybe you should go play (

LOL, ZB.
The voxel terrain in Outcast was great in its day...but we have advanced a bit since then, Briareos H.
Anyway, how is a mod for Crysis Wars (the multiplayer component of Crysis/Warhead iirc) considered 'Open'?

The whole point of the voxel engine was that hardware of the time wasn't capable of rendering enough polygons to display large areas of open, naturally contoured terrain. It wasn't because they wanted it to look pixelated all to shit, it was just the only way they could get the vistas they needed.

I have it installed on my laptop at the moment. Great game.
One question, wasn't it CPU dependent, and unreliant on the video card? I remember when I got it, my jaw dropped when I heard what Pentium was required to play it smooth and purty.

EDIT: What's so bad about the Warhead build of CryEngine 2? The engine is well optimised and the Sandbox SDK/editing suite is simple to use and is pretty powerful. Mid-range hardware can run that game on high settings with ease.
Is that the logic behind Westwood using voxels for Blade Runner? I remember playing BR back in the day and being baffled that it didn't offer a 3D accelerated option, like most games being released at time. It retrospect it's not really needed when you're pretty much exclusively using animated pre-rendered backdrops, FMVs and non-polygon based objects.

I have played it and it's really awesome!
A good example to show what Voxel is capable of that we still can't do polygonal.
I prefer the Ken Silverman demos though.

Great, a whole new bunch of PMs about Outcast to respond to
Osssum News! :)
