Oh come on, 245, this isn't rocket science.

So...are you volunteering? :D

No, its game engine reverse-engineering coupled with an engine rewrite. I've seen what goes into that kinda shit, and it is a HELL of an undertaking. Even writing a relatively simple game can be prohibitively difficult at times.

Considering that the computer that got us to the moon had only 2k of memory and 32k of storage and was 8 times less powerful than an early, low-end, 1980's IBM PC, this Dark Engine code could very well be in the realm of rocket-science, without the specific application. Sorry, weak comparison.:laff:

And this understatement is almost an insult. Sorry, but you obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about. ;)

We're talking at
least hundreds of thousands of lines of code for the rewrite itself, ie: I'm not including any external libraries or SDK's used. Even something as simple as (
http://exult.sourceforge.net) Exult (a rewrite of the Ultima VII engine under SDL) is a monumental effort, taking years worth of hard work to even get a semi-stable beta. Also, considering everyone working on the OPDE is essentially working for free...well...you get the gist.

True, but it's a safe bet to assume that if volca and his makeshift crew have made it this far, it certainly can't be as long as Duke nukem forevers development.
I'm starting to despise PC game developers: they either take stuff like making bloated games or run-of-the-mill shareware games too seriously, or they seem to think the sun shines out of their... Well, y' know.
I'm not speaking about all developers out there, but it's true.

The difference between this far and how far left to go is probably underestimated as well.

AFAIR, Volca said that "this far" (i.e. renderer) was just 20% or so.

Can we just shut up already!? I meant well, but I didn't mean to bring up a debate about on this...
