We'll see how it turns out - yet I think the leak as-is is twice as dangerous as it contains game data as well.
Still I think it could work if we organize a repository for patches only, so anyone could work on getting the source code compile again, without worrying about the legality of the repository itself.
If OPDE will still be useful or not will turn out later, after things settle a bit - I expect media attention turn towards this very soon...

Game data? The only thing I saw in there were the unstripped missions which are already available... Was there something else?

Oh, you're right. I only skimmed through the file list and saw mis files. That improves the situation a bit :)

So what's it like looking over the actual source code, after spending *YEARS* of your life trying to reverse engineer it? =P
What did you want to see first?
What're your thoughts so far on making it go?
Find anything that just makes your jaw drop?

I am torn apart right now - I had about 5 minutes of time at most to look at it and have to work, dammit!
It is fantastic, all the things we had to deduce are right there! First thing I did was looking for the portal directory, since I spent quite some time copying that part of Dark :)
There is a thread about making it work at Editor's guild, so far I had no time to try - we'll probably see a lot of effort from a lot of people in the upcoming days though :thumb:
Edit: Hmmm, the draw_surface methods really are that messy as I thought! :)

It's absolutely stunning. :cheeky:

Twas stunning, but now the good news from last years has dwindled so much since the developments that coincided further and... This threads hit the dolrums again. Just wondering how much the discovery of the source code, or what we have, did for OPDE?
Volca on 4/1/2011 at 06:46
I'd say no wonder - I am currently waiting what Eidos/Square Enix decides to do regarding the situation. For now, I put my efforts on OPDE on ice (it suits me since I have lack of free time anyway).

Ah, okay. But the looking into the source as it is, has given some good insight as you've said.

I've just discovered OPDE and kudos to you Volca for sticking at it for so long. Very impressive indeed and I'm sorry you feel the DE source leak has put your plans on ice.
I have a crazy plan to remake Thief 1 this year using Irrlicht for the rendering, Irrklang for the sound and Lua for everything else. So far it's at design document stage only and I have some big jobs ahead before I can even get going (wrap Irrlicht in Lua, ditto Irrklang and so on) but I'm thinking a great deal about it already.
But hey, talk is cheap. Show me the code I hear everyone say and you're right. Cya.
