I personally have always felt that Quake 1 has a very similar look to Thief. Perhaps it's because both of them use 8-bit textures. They also both have a midevil look to them. I think Quake would have been a good place to create a Thief-inspired stealth game that looks close to the original.

That's a common comparison, actually.:)

Also both implemented a software renderer with surface cache (Well Dark did it probably because Quake did it, as Sean Barrett mentions on his page). Both are quite similar, I'd say, with two exceptions - Q1 uses PVS, Dark does not, and Q1 starts with empty space, whereas Dark starts with endless space full of material (this has got to have some name). Both use CSG to create levels, even though differently. A lot of similarities.

"Dark Matter".

I'm sure Dark Matter was a joke. Quite a good one, actually. :laff:
The discussion regarding the openthief sourceforge project is moot, in my opinion. In the 18 months that it has been registered there has been nothing added to it. I myself would have been interested in being added as an admin but, since there is nothing but a SF project name, I decided against it; I'd be starting a project from "scratch".
I've been away from Thief for a few months so I'll be getting the latest OPDE and TDM and seeing where they stand...

I since then remembered - it's called Additive/Subtractive CSG. Anyway, "Dark Matter" sounded reasonable enough for me to believe it. :)
Welcome back then. If you'll be experimenting with OPDE, let me know if you have problems.
