Well he should know we're not going to judge him for anything he said. It was a while ago after all.
But more than that, I take great issue with your reasoning here. If 20 people create something and want it released but one person suddenly decides against it they trump everyone else.

Agreed, democracy is the way here, that's why there's a poll. And I think too, everyone should fully realize when they do discuss something publicly like that, others may (and will) see it down the road.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression it's everyone but the creators deciding here.

Good point, Kolya. I myself never saw any of this, but if I had been involved, I'd appreciate Medlar's discretion.

I'd think it should be preserved *somewhere* because I'm an archivist at heart & it's an interesting time to get a sense of how people were really thinking at the time, rather than by our memories which have whitewashed the whole event by now. But seeing as it was an IRC chat and (in contrast to forums) people post on those not expecting everything they say will get saved, and that's what makes people open up on them more which is what makes them worthwhile, then there's a case for not opening it either. So I don't have a strong opinion about it. I'd rather it be saved because I think everything ever written in the history of writing should be saved, but that's just my bias. I'm also aware my opinion doesn't mean much, but I'm not pretending it does either, so feel free to not give it much weight.

Well I don't know who was involved so...

I was there, and I think it has some value and should be archived publicly. It was 12 years ago and we're not the same people now as we were then, and it's not the same world as it was in that moment, but it's a unique moment in history that deserves preservation.

its a friggin irc log from a obscure gaming community, not some national treasure. You can do whatever the hell you like as long as I never have to read or see any material from it.
Renault on 22/1/2014 at 19:48
Why the trepidation? Is there something SO bad in there, have your views and opinions changed that much that it would be so completely embarrassing today? I'm asking seriously here.
SubJeff on 22/1/2014 at 20:01
Come on man, we've all been on here long enough to have said stuff in the past that we'd never say now. I know I have. I had a ridiculous irc row with RBJ years ago that makes me cringe just thinking about it.
I think it perfectly legit for Piglick to have reservations about this which is why I think it shouldn't be public, just distributed to people who aren't going to be dicks about it.
