I do two backups every time I portalize: one before portalizing and one after (if all went well).
WOW!! And I thought I was being anal just making one every couple of hours and when I shut down for the night.:eek::eek:

Couple of hours? I make a new save at least every half hour or so.

I'm thinking, for some of us here, it's a good thing we can't do Dromedding on our phones or tablets.

After reading this thread, I took a look at how many saves I had for my mission in progress - over 1000. I made it a little too big, just got away from me when I was building as I make it up as I go. Yandros makes the perfect point, every half hour or so will keep your blood pressure down when you have the inevitable crash. Although, does not happen so much with NewDark. I also run "complete processing" often as well. Prior to NewDark, full mission processing took forever when the mission got big but now zips along very quickly.

It's also smart to keep a few saves on a usb stick or somewhere else besides your hard drive, in case it fails.

I have about a gigabyte of mission backups and have the latest versions of my missions both on an USB stick and on my Dropbox. I lost enough work to be careful with that now.
(I also save every 5-15 mins just in case).

I back up to Dropbox regularly and an external HD occasionally. As for disc space, I have no idea what the total is but I do know that my DCE folder is currently around 10GB because of all the working files, including lots of uncompressed WAV files as well as Beta ZIPs and the like.

Wow. I don't feel like such a paranoid individual now. I have it all backed up to an external hard drive and periodically email myself the latest mission file. I guess all of our paranoia comes from the time that each of us lost a sizeable amount of work and vowed to never let is happen again. It was an awful feeling.

In my last mission I had well over 900 saves. Each day of dromeding always had a new save plus a save after I finished a fair amount of work... more often with complex work. I too backed mine up on a second hard drive and it paid off. I had some corrupted files that included some of my saves, but I was able to get one good save that was very recent and required very little re-work.
