EA can go fuck themselves. I'm never going to buy games from their service.

QUESTION
I've received an error message on Origin, what does the error mean?
ANSWER
You may receive one of the following error messages if you have reached the maximum amount of times your game can be downloaded through Origin:
For security reasons, you are allowed # concurrently active licenses. This limit has been reached. Please wait until one of the other licenses auto-expires, then try again.
License response error: '78008,Max machine lifetime entitlement met:#
Error: 10000:78008
Every time the download button is clicked, a download count will be added to your lifetime total. If you have installed your game via Origin on more than three computers within a ten day period, you will need to wait until the first installation expires.
Note: Re-installing your operating system, or interrupting a current download, will count as a new computer installation.
If you have reached your download limit, click Contact Us and include your account name, the title of the file or game you are downloading, and a brief description of the issue.

That sucks. Its a change for the worse, the old EADM was pretty light on the DRM.
Yakoob on 17/6/2011 at 15:58
Oh wow that is ballz.
Although *realistically* it is not as bad as it sounds. Tho the magic words are "three computers" and "ten days." Clearly their approach is to prevent sharing (i.e. installing it on like 12 computers in one go) rather than multiple installs over ownership of the game. So honestly it wont affect 99.999% of users. Unless your download manages to fuck up and get corrupted like 3 times in a row, but what are the odds of that...?

Pretty big, considering my download of Crysis 2 on EADM had to happen 4 times. The stupid client went over the 100% mark to 112% and then kept grinding my hard disk for 12 hours straight each time, until they issued a client fix.
That's stupid, and I don't like the words 'lifetime entitlement' when it comes to this. If there's one thing I hate, it's being told how many times I can download something I bought, so EA really can go and fuck themselves.
As a a side note, that answer seems to have been removed.
Also, before the inevitable happens, this is my pre-emptive reply:

would he even get the joke

I got a free copy of Mirrors Edge when I got my pc a couple of years back, but it was just a coupon for redeeming it though EADM. I didn't have any problems with the service or installation etc, and I even purchased Mass Effect 1 on it, because it was half the cost of getting it on Steam at the time.
I've been annoyed in other ways though, trying to find the login button on the site, trying to find the serial keys, I actually had to open the registry to find them. A lot of little things that I guess I'd gotten used to with steam are plain absent and you'll feel it.
Origin was a bit buggy, its still classed as "Beta", but its essentially the same thing as EADM.

Should I have?
Yes. Valve/Steam gets all the praise and the competition is rarely mentioned, as well as the fact that it's getting harder to find new major titles that don't require Internet connection to Steam, regardless of the DRM complaints. The complaints are only one facet. They've managed to avoid getting slammed with conflict-of-interest concerns, though they were raised in Steam's early days.

Just because a few more games are using Steam now doesn't mean it's getting harder to find games that don't require it. There's plenty that don't still.
Not to mention, and let me just say that I'm not a Steam cheerleader by any means (nor a Valve cheerleader these days, but for different reasons) but the reason Steam is, well, steamrolling the competition is because the competition sucks. GFWL is one of the worst, but the others are bad enough that comparisons can be made.
DaBeast on 27/6/2011 at 05:31
I wouldn't put GFWL with Steam, maybe its along the same lines as EADM. Originally I think it was meant to be something like XBL but for windows, only people weren't willing to pay for something they'd been getting for free for a long time.
Now it seems to be used purely as a DRM by publishers, while gamers seem to actually like the whole achievements thing.
I suspect MS will try a relaunch to tie with with this new XBL/GFWL/Mobile7 triangle thing they keep blathering about.

Windows 8 might be married to some sort of GfWL+Facebook-esque social network hybrid with Kinect gesture navigation, if that (

EDIT:- haha, i remember this. i look forward to the possible announcement of thief 4 using steamworks, just so i can sit back and watch the thiefgen cave dwellers run around like headless chickens.

"Traitors", really? You will NEVER be in any position to judge a game without having played it. Your opinion will completely lack any credibility and will not be worth addressing during serious discussion.
Square Enix Europe aka Eidos are big fans of Steamworks as well. The Last Remnant, Just Cause 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Kane and Lynch 2... they all used it. So, good chances that Deus Ex 3: HR and Thief 4 will as well.
If so then the drama will glorious, if that Cardia thread was any indication. I'll book front row seats and have my extra butter popcorn ready.
