Windows 8, eh? Wasn`t Win 7 released, like , few hours ago?
I`m gonna stay on XP until it`s truly ridiculous...then jump to 7 with hope it`ll last few good years too.

There's normally a new Windows every 3 years. XP's 5 year reign was an anomaly. Everything is back to normal now.
As for XP as a gaming platform, the final nail is well and truly in the coffin now. Battlefield 3 and ArmA 3 won't support it.

Ah, these. It will be many moons before I get a rig able to run them on very high, so not bothered.
I`ve spend quite a few years in console wilderness, so my PC backlog is huge. Which is great, coz I can buy stuff cheap & run it maxed out.
I`m glad Win 7 has good reviews though...but more because of stability angle than any "features" it might have. I use Windows purely as a shell - stripped down & all soft is from 3rd party devs.

Anything that hurts Steam is good in my book.
Agreed. I don't really mind Steam much (it's Steamworks on retail games that I dislike), but more competition is needed among the online game stores.

Well then maybe the competition shouldn't suck shit. How's that for a fucking idea, instead of looking for something that 'hurts Steam' because you're a whiny ninny fight-the-powa bananapants like van HellSing?

Indeed; fight it not by being the alternative but by being a good, worthwhile alternative.
