Shit... These make me miss the good old Origin days so much. What I wouldn't give for a Privateer 3 or a real new Ultima game...
From what I've been able to gather from the documents on WCNews.com, Privateer 3 was aiming to have single player somewhere between Privateer 1 and 2. The game would have had a film shoot and fixer interaction would be done through FMV. The game was, however, supposed to be crafted as an open world that would have allowed players to find their own path. Multiple factions and attached plots would have provided most of the game's story. The game was also planned to have a fairly large multiplayer component for up to 64 players. Customizable ships and player run guilds and space stations would have been available in multiplayer. Ultimately, I think the whole thing sounded a little too ambitious for the late '90s. Still would have been interesting, though.

Thanks for the links. This does sound cool... Now I just need all the unpublished Ultima materials and I'll be happy/depressed. :) (I'd love a well-made Britannia in the Oblivion engine...)

I would imagine that would be the case since the people who run the Origin Museum and WCNews.com have teamed up before. Hell, the whole solsector.net from the old URL means that the Origin Museum was hosted by WCNews.com at that time.

Yep, I was a bit slow on the uptake there. I didn't recognise the solsector domain, but The Artful Gamer story was a little clearer.
I'm glad all that data is being preserved. It's still quite tragic that old Origin games were just (
http://www.wcnews.com/news/update/8575) thrown away, though. Why would anyone do that??

Damn, I remember that item, but had completely forgot about the fact that boxes of games had been thrown away. Who in their right mind would do that?
EDIT: It's too bad I missed out on a lot of this stuff because I got into it rather late. I do remember watching my cousins play Wing Commander IV, and it was an eye opening experience. I myself ended up having to throw away most of my old game boxes, and Wing Commander III didn't make the cut. I would have probably kept it if it was a little nicer and could fold up. I ended up putting it in the trash, and now I sorta regret it.
This (

EDIT2: WCNews also revealed that they managed to find a binder full of accounting information from the Wing Commander 3/4 film shoot. Apparently, Chris Roberts had bought a ton of alcoholic beverages during this time. :p

If they release the design materials, perhaps someone will put Exult to good use and create Arthurian Legends.
Reading this thread and looking at the loot, I have to say that it's probably been almost ten years since I last felt the same about games as I did back in the heyday of Origin. I remember getting the Ultima VI box, opening it, checking out the trinket and cloth map... Yes, some of that may be nerd nostalgia, but I do miss that feeling.

Any sign of Cybermage: Darklight Awakening?
