EDIT: CCCToad edited his post. I no longer object to its contents.

C3Toad, I don't agree with your viewpoints but you've always comported yourself with extraordinary courtesy, even when you are attacked (by me on at least one occasion, I'm forced to admit), so in a similar spirit of courtesy I will beg you, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND YOUR OWN BODY, to take back that post and spare yourself another mauling. Quickly, before the wolves/sharks/wolf-sharks begin to circle.

Nah, its amusing when they get their panties in a wad. So predictable. Who wants to bet that at least one person who jumps up defending his comments can be quoted in the Arizona Congresswoman thread as outraged when a right-winger said it?

I started to quote and respond but damn there is just too much. Suffice to say I appreciate the responses. Sure, I understand the resentments, but I also understand the motivation of intervening against the hardliners who want to restart another Arab- Israeli war and institute an anti western form of authoritarian religious nuttery. Call me dumb all day long but as simple as the statement about hating freedom is, it strikes pretty damn close to home when you go through all the things the mullahs want to curtail in society like women voting, driving, going to male doctors and the like. Women are chattel and the men masters who in turn are slaves to reading only what thier religion dictates and doing only what the mullahs say. No freedom of religion, no freedom of press, no freedom of expression, no freedom of thought. I would posit that most of thier western hate originates with these leaders who need it as a control mechanism over the populace.
I would stop well short of saying everything was done altruisticly but when you go through the whole of foriegn policy over the past 40 years you see an attempt to tamp down the sort of element I stated. Perhaps not enough was done to promote freedoms, I'll give you that. It's been more reactions too damn late, which is why I have such disdain for the CIA. They also have a history of being led by the nose by people who have thier own agenda from foriegn countries but this is already too scattershot and I don't have time to explain why I think so but recall Saddams former second in command claiming WMD on the Daily show. Many Iraqis wanted invasion, the Kurds understandably but the Shiites as well and Iran for us to do the dirty work before they step in as fellow Shiites. I'm afraid I don't recall mideast assassinations though we supported some repressive bastards (the shah of Iran).
Anyway where there was only control of dissidents (bad mistake in Iran)we looked the other way but where there was a danger of actual religious tyrany or restarting the Arab-Iraeli wars we perked up. Maybe that wasn't exactly right but even we have limited influence and money and though lord knows we try hard enough to buy friends it rarely works. Hardline Islam is a strict bitch. To the Taliban there is ONLY one book. That shit is scary and I don't think it's right to underestimate the impact it's spreading has on the western mind, which has it's own religious nuts but is overall temperate and tolerant.
Meanwhile of course Cheney funneled money to his buddies and Bush cut taxes to nothing for his so that average joe got the bill and will have to go without healthcare. Yay. It would be so nice if we stayed out of everything completely and just waited to own the world like China.
But we got Osama. Allow a little cheer. 'Sall I'm sayin.
Oh, and I'm too much of a lady to give you the finger CCC but pretend democracy? sure.

It's ok for Governments to kill people because they have the greater good of mankind to live up to.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to kill you for the greater good of the forum, Ted.

But you're not a governments
Tocky on 5/5/2011 at 05:17
I am a government of one. Read Jack Londons "The Unexpected". That's me, the unexpected government of one.
I expect to be overthrown when my wife comes in a catches me up at this hour.
