While I'm sure that the death of Osama bin Laden alone won't end all the wars, and everyone probably won't live happily ever after, I think it could still have a pretty big effect. I just hope that it'll be something positive...
What you say is of course true from a rational point of view, but who knows how some militarist extremist thinks? I mean, bin Laden was probably some kind of a god to his fanatic followers... and now he has become a martyr of course! Which is a bit scary actually...

The Pakistani intelligence service must have slipped up in warning him. It won't change the level of hate by the true believers or for that matter the incredulity of the conspiracy theorists but good riddance. Let it be a lesson to any who seek to follow his example. We will track you down and kill you though it bankrupts our country and takes ten years and thousands of lives in a futile effort to stem the neverending tide of murderous religious nuts.

Actually wasn't it a couple of years ago they said something about counter intelligence efforts and so on cutting off his supply of money? Maybe it took this long for him to run out and the US's offer to start looking good to the right people. But I don't rightly recall.
(That's not egregiously cynical of me, btw. Even though it is fairly cynical. I gather that's often how it's done though)
Annoyingly, if it's all true, he's probably the sort to have some kind of revenge protocol for just such and eventuality. We may expect prolonged orange alerts

I was trying to figure out how to say about how I feel about this, and this is a pretty good approximation. It would have been better to get him alive and bring him to justice, but death is a good compromise.
But sweet merciful crap, look at the headlong, double-war, piss-takingly huge bill my home country racked up along the way, largely starting in the name of going after this guy.
If I were a cartoonish supervillan asshole, and if a wealthy, powerful enemy I really hated tore down his entire life and burned half his bridges to come after me, and he finally caught up with me and put a bullet in my heart, I'd probably still die with an assholish little smirk on my face.
Or, good riddance, holy shit look at the bill.

I found the cheering crowd outside the White House a bit in bad taste. Sure, I'm glad he's dead so that he can't encourage or fund more operations, but it'd be better if he was captured and made to stand trial.
Of course, it'd be better if he had a change of heart and chose to lead a truth and reconciliation campaign with joint NATO-Taliban meetings, but I really doubt that would have happened!
