It might be old news, but I just dloaded and installed the patch and it's pretty significant. I just ran through the first 2 levels again with all the details maxed and it ran more than twice as fast as before. And this is with a weaker videocard (mine died and is off to Asus for repair, i have a back up)

Even with the patch the optimisation is still shockingly bad. It still needs more work.
