Overall the quality of the *additional* content in Thief Gold is... - by jay pettitt

oh this is better.
Okay, This is about how you feel the quality of the additional content in Thief Gold compares to the quality of the original Dark Project content. It's not about which package is better, rather it's an attempt to better understand some, but by no means all, the relative merits of the two editions. Don't be thinking that your answer may mean that x is going to be officially better than y or cause the known universe to implode or anything, that'd stupid; you can have both x and y, they're different and coexist quite happily. Thanks for participating. I have stickers for everyone who voted, but you do have to come and collect from the north pole where I accidentally buried them.

I prefer how TDP was put together. The extra missions in TG wasn't any of my favourite types.
Songs of the Caverns started out really good with the craymen caves and the Keeper trap and I thought that it would be more of that, but then the mission changed nature completely. The opera house was like a huge mansion and I am usually not very fond of huge mansions, because they tend to get too repetitive and the opera house was no exception (though I have played mansion-FMs that I've really liked). The opera singer slash hermit was an interesting character, though.
Thieves' Guild was a total maze, but I liked the challenge of sneaking past the thieves in there.
While playing I thought the mage towers was the best out of the three extra missions, but right now I don't remember much from it. I think I will have to replay all of them again some time.
In TG I had dull moments, which I never had in TDP.

I voted for T3, because no other option was applicable for me..

I find Thef Gold to be the complete experience.
I think I've played more Thief: Gold missions than DP missions overall.

I didn't like the retexturing of the Bonehoard in Gold, nor the addition of the fireshadow (everything else being more or less on par) but what really made me love it was Little-Big Land and the blooper mission.

As much as I grow bored of Thieves' Guild, and Mage Towers makes me grit my teeth, Gold is definitely the Complete Package and so wins it for me. Besides, Song of the Caverns makes up for the other two missions.

I've never had the opportunity to play TDP (bought Gold off the bat), but Little Big World is one of my absolute very favourite parts of the game (and man, Thief is probably my favourite overall game, so what does that say). The music in those parts especially is wonderful, creates a surreal feeling that most games do not.
Come to think of it, Thieves' Guild creates a similar feeling, so though it's an architectural mess, it reminds me of the long dreams I sometimes have in which I explore strange labyrinthine buildings. I love it.
Song of the Caverns also has one of the most memorable characters in the series (la la la looo, ha ha ha ha HOOO), and those little background pizzicatos that play when you're in the rehearsal areas contribute to an amazing atmosphere.
Mage Towers is probably the weakest of the three atmospherically (and since I've long gotten over the challenge of Thief, atmosphere is the main reason I still play it), though it certainly has its moments, and it was still a great sneaking level.
I would like to see the unrevised Bonehoard, but other than that I can't imagine Thief without the Gold additions. It even kinda makes more sense to the story; after all, having two talismans in one place is a bit lazy. I voted "favourably".
