"Compares favorably" and "about the same" mean the SAME THING.

Yeah I did kind of twig that, but only after I'd pressed the button and it was all too late. Fortunately I don't think anyone has noticed yet.

Judging by the votes, I'd say people have noticed and are thus choosing randomly between the two.

Perhaps you could write an FAQ to help them...

I'd say its fairly obvious from the order of the poll answers and the context that the first option means "better than Thief 1 missions."

Interesting, but then I think semantics is interesting. I wonder whether it's an age-related issue. :)
My understanding of 'compare favourably' has always been 'better than'. I can only find one dictionary definition of the phrase and it happens to agree. Other searches seem to reveal nothing in so far as the phrase is used frequently but reading the various texts it applies to doesn't seem to reveal categorically whether something is 'better than something' or 'as good as something' or not.
I took it to mean 'better than' and voted accordingly. But darned if I can remember what I voted now.

Overall, I think Thief Gold is better. The Thieves guild mission was good at the beginning and the end, but the middle was kind of boring (wondering around those tunnels). I really enjoyed the opera house and the mage towers missions. The music that plays when you're sneaking around the opera house helps build atmosphere, and it's always fun to get enemies to chase you into the water tower and drown themselves on mage towers. One thing that sucks though is the fact that they didn't fix the bug where entering a game, going to the menu and changing video options, re-entering the game, and changing options again crashes the game. That's not cool. It always happened on WIndows, and it also happens with Wine. It was fixed for t2 though.
