I always loved the way the minions equipped themselves with looted stuff. Not, apparently, according to utility, but to some random minion-lust, so while one minion would decide that a nice metal helmet makes effective head protection, another would decide AN ENTIRE PUMPKIN was a better choice.
The sight of a happy imp proudly brandishing his looted broom, before bringing you the soul of a slaughtered sheep, was joyful.

Because (and this makes me love them even more) they decided that in the sequel, your initial/core resource for brown minion essence is...

I got kinda bored of Overlord halfway through. But now I want to play it again...

The original Overlord struck me as fun while it lasted, which unfortunately amounted to about 2/3 of the total game. And the horrible save system had me chewing on my teeth.
Having said that, controlling an army of gremlins that destroy everything in sight amounts to a lifelong fantasy of mine, so Overlord 2 is probably an inevitable purchase.

I read Overlord II fixed a lot of issues (camera, save system, AI, etc.) but I never played the original. I figure I might as well, since if I play Overlord II first there will be no reason to play the first one - this is what happened with me and Pikmin 2.

A little over an hour in and so far this game is pitched fucking perfectly.

I don't think you can get Overlord on Steam anymore (I could be wrong, though). I remember reading on the Codemasters Overlord forums that there had been many problems with Steam, so they had decided to discontinue that avenue.
But you can get the original, and the Raising Hell expansion pretty cheap. (
http://product.half.ebay.com/Overlord_W0QQprZ54592931QQtgZinfo) Brand new for $8.94 at Half.com. I have frequently bought used & new games on Half.com, and never had a problem.
It's still listed. I think the issue is that you couldn't install the expansion onto the Steam copy. With the sequel out already, that's not such a big deal, but then again, the price isn't all that appealing either. Maybe I'll look around (at half.com like you mentioned, or elsewhere).

Clearly the correct answer is the adorable green one that looks like the Dilophosaurus that ate Dennis Nedry.
I schmoozed my way into getting two of them, a brown one and a green one :cheeky: I suck at making decisions.
Speaking of which... this was in one of those emails containing a dozen similar images. My husband totally had no clue what this was all about:

Haha, that's great. Takes me back to 1999 when those two games were it for horror.

I picked up Overlord II for the PS3 in Game Oxford Street today, and even though I didn't pre-order, they gave me a minion.
He's a brown.
Well chuffed :D
HMV did a similar thing when I bought Bionic Commando; they gave me a free Spencer action figure.
