How well do Overlord 1 & 2 play with mouse + kb? Is one better off using a 360 pad?
Thanks in advance.

I played Overlord 1 on PC (M/KB) no probs. It felt comfortable and not at all like a shitty port of a game designed solely for controllers.

I don't get that, as I have no problem with the save system at all. It's not quicksave, sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Other than that I can't think of any problems with it.
Here's a problem: no save anywhere function. I wouldn't even really have a problem with a checkpoint save system if the checkpoints came frequently enough (or were actual save checkpoints, as opposed to markers you can return to minus, say, the mounts you autosaved with).
Last night I was playing a level in which you are separated from your minions and reclaim them one by one. Cool, but then a quasi-boss fight killed them all (and me!) and a reload dumped me back at the beginning of the level, minus my twenty minutes or so of progress.
I'm sorry but the list of things I should not have to put up with while playing video games in 2009 includes but is not limited to losing twenty minutes to a shitty save system.
I rescind my recommendation to buy this game as this kind of shitty design should not be rewarded.

Save system? I didn't get past the end of the demo tutorial without losing interest :(

totally in with Stitch on this one, played the demo, save system=shit.
Man, I have given up on so many games because of issues like this, surely its just laziness on the developers part?

No no no, it "adds challenge".
Based on the first, I'd wait for this to hit the deep end of the bargain bin.

you know where they can stick their challenge, dont you

I have played it through twice now, and I've come to the conclusion that 100% dominance is an exercise in futility. 100% destruction is a piece of cake - just kill/blow-up everything & everyone, easy.
If someone has figured out how the fuck to squash the elven rebellion in Everlight town WITHOUT killing any of the rebel elves (as they are counted as members of that community) I would really love to know.
Still, I love all the quirky humor in these games. So many times I just giggle my butt off. Like when you "disguise" your minions as military to enter the stronghold... and they start whistling the tune from "Bridge on the River Kwai" as you're marching along towards it. :laff:
Trivia Bit: One of the scriptwriters for both Overlord games is none other than Rhianna Pratchett, daughter of (yes, you guessed it), Terry Pratchett. This explains a lot :cheeky:
In other news, I ended up with an extra copy of the game if anyone's interested (I was thinking of selling it on half.com, or giving it to a friend for his birthday).

Well, with a voucher I was able to bring the above deal down to £8 including shipping, so I've ordered a copy. :D
