Didn't he already do Blizzcon or some shit like a year ago? And a Warcraft commercial? Isn't that "selling out" about as much as this is?
Not that I even understand what we consider selling out anymore. I'd say "selling out" is when someone makes a hard stand against a product but then later accepts payment to advertise for it. This is more like... sidestepping into territory that his music has been featured in for nearly a decade now. Hell, he even recorded special editions for some of these games. Taking part in some dumb gaming event isn't anything exciting.

Selling out is when Metallica lambasted MTV and "image" bands, then made an "image" video for MTV.
Selling out is not when someone other than you alone is aware of the artist. That's known as poverty.

Getting a major label to publish you is the goal of being a band
Make music?

I'm pretty sure the main goal of most good musicians is "making good music", with "getting signed", "making money", and "getting a blowjob" being possible side effects of that.
Record labels (major and most indie) sign bands based on their perceived ability to make money for them, not because they're philanthropists who care about music.

Who knew defining "selling out" would be so difficult.

I'm not sure that's it. Sure it makes them hypocrites, but sellouts? Depends on their motivation for making the video.
I'd say selling out is when you do something for the money rather than the art. It's perfectly acceptable to sell out because everyone needs to make money after all, but it
is going to throw a dark shadow on your other, more legitimate, creative endeavors.

Selling out is when you abandon your stated principles, views, or philosophy (what you are known for) to appease some group or to achieve some sort of gain (usually a shitload of cash) that goes against what you stand for or what you seemingly stand for (which, usually, was what made you famous and beloved in the first place--especially true when dealing with celebrities). Ozzy has always been about making a shitload of cash, so there's nothing about him that's a "sellout".
Much like Kiss.
Or at least Chaim Witz.
[Edit] A sellout would be if Leonard Cohen started using AutoTune and released a cover album of Lady Ga Ga's greatest hits.
SubJeff on 6/6/2010 at 10:20
No, that would be awesome. Cohen GaGa covers anyway.

What? So artists aren't allowed to change their minds? And aren't allowed to stray outside of the genres and styles they've established themselves in? If Cohen wants to do Autotuned Gaga-covers he should be allowed to. But if he does it just for the money it's selling out.
IMO

Here, this is selling out.
I bet Ozzy never played even a single minute of WoW.

Just like I don't believe he is even physically or mentally capable of playing CoD. Tic-Tac-Toe is probably even too hard for him to concentrate.
I don't mind if celebrities once in a while do a commercial. But one shouldn't do any of them, unless you are really using the product. And are enthusiastic about it. You like whiskey ? Fine, do a commercial. You are a vegetarian and you do a commercial for McDonalds ? Hypocrite. Sellout. Ozzy doesn't play games. So doing commercials for them is nonsense.
