Don't RPGs usually have weapon upgrades? ;)

"It's safe to say that there's an association of stealth games being boring and slow-paced."
well mr. D'Astous, you don't really know what you are talking about. Thief boring? Its like saying the FPS genre is too bloody and try to do a Flower shooter. :erg:
And taking Thief to a "larger audience" means only decreasing the quality.

boring: NO WAY
slow-paced: YES PLEASE
there is the general misconception that games must be fast-paced and instantly gratifying

Some of the best thief memories I have, is making a move, its the wrong one, and having guard walking at me from both directions or whatever. There is no obvious excape route, I think I am gonna get caught.
There is nothing more satisfying than looking up and rope arrowing a rafter/leaping out a window, or barreling through into a side room you have'nt been able to check before going in. I'd live more things like that.

We hope. :) . Hopefully they can bring this and DX3 off without alienating the whole fanbase a la DX2.

Sounds like the T4 devs have a very serious challenge on their hands. (Glad I'm not them.) Guess I'm normal in the respect that I have to fight my adversity to change; especially where the Thief games are concerned. Though I don't want just a re-hash of TDP & TMA, I wouldn't want to see a blatant sequel to TDS either. I'm very curious to see what EM comes up with. They (EM) sound like they're going to try to be 'middle of the road' when it comes to fans/new users, and they want to keep the 'essence' of Thief, but they want to be innovative at the same time.
I wish them well.

"innovative" these days is more of an buzzword for advertising. many games claimed it, made it part of their ad campaign and did only fool the usual fanboy or corporate funded reviewers (e.g imo bioshock, farcry2).
I don't care if T4 is innovative either. It just has to be great. No piece of the game is allowed to stand out or be easily spotted as the worst thing. every aspect of the game has to be handled in regards to high standards and achieve them. I don't want a game with 1-2 "innovative" features where whole levels are built around them to show them off and justify all the time that went into developing them. Everything, every part, asset, sound, prop that is being made should be there for one purpose alone: to tell a story and make our thieving more interesting, challenging and rewarding once pulled off. to bring across the feeling of T1+2: creep, dread, tension and sometimes even terror but also the assurance that you ARE the masterthief, the only one that can pull that off.
I'd also would like to see a more.....difficult approach to stealth. T1 was very...forgiving imo to those aspects. Standing 1inch infront of a guard and being not noticed.....come on......
I'd like my character to have the ability to stop breathing (for the same amount of time he can dive) when somebody passes very near to him. that would be an ace addition to walk, sneak + creep for example.
it's those little touches that should make the new game (and the story of course), if I suddenly get a 6barreled automatic arrow launcher I won't be happy ;)
