that reminds me: am i the only one who goes out of their way to stealth-kill the assassins manhunt-style while leaving the other keepers (and guards and anyone else with hostile intentions towards garrett) alive?
No, you're not. When I first met them, it didn't occur to me their behaviour could be a bug, I thought they were just crazy. They had no mercy, so neither did I. I felt like I was playing through Strange Bedfellows again, only this time it was Keepers, not Pagans on the rampage.

Same here. Besides the fact that those guys are out there specifically to kill
me, seeing them mercilessly butcher innocent civilians pissed me off, so even though I normally never kill humans, I take great pleasure in eliminating the assassins.

Really? There's supposed to be an assassin and a keeper after you escape the Keeper compound - where you get the note telling you to go to the alley where Perry is situated so you can find the secret tunnel to Fort Ironwood.
I think I completed some objective out of sequence and created a plot-hole.

Most often, the surly chap tends to miss you if you go wandering past. He's not very good at his job.
Actually, that's all that decides it. If you steal the gold, you get "punished". That small bag of gold is all that stand between you and a sound... ummm... ignoring by her hired sword.

When I last played that mission I put an arrow through all of her guards and ran off with her possessions. I wasn't surprised that a nasty pirate man started chasing me in South Quarter. Fun :joke:

As an odd aside, I've been playing TDS of late, and decided to listen to the idle comments that Curtis makes.
Some great stuff there:
"Maybe after I kill Garret, I'll find some of that inheritance money. Maybe there's enough to get the Widow back on her feet."
"What kind of hoodlum steals every last dime from a poor, senseless widow? The kind that needs to be taught a lesson. That's just what I'll do when I find Garret."
"Steal from the widow Moira, hey? So you thought the Widow was too far gone to have any good guards in the arsenal, hey? Well, you've made a big mistake, Garret, a BIG mistake. Now you have to deal with Curtis and I ain't as nice as the Widow."

Yep. Good ol' Curtis, I say.
Wheee!
m11v20a:
"They said the thief who stole the Widow Moira's fortune lives around here. I'll find him. Make him sorry he ever set foot in her house."
m11v20b:
"What kind of a hoodlum steals every last dime from a poor senseless widow? The kind that needs to be taught a lesson. And that's just what I'll do when I find this Garrett."
m11v20c:
"Steal from the Widow Moira, will he? Think she's too far gone to have any good guards left in the arsenal? Well...you've made a big mistake, Garrett. A big mistake. Now you have to deal with Curtis, and I ain't as nice as the Widow."
m11v20d:
"Seems like even thieves oughta have some kind of code they live by...some kind of line they don't cross. Stealing the Widow Moira's inheritance oughta be over that line. Well, if Garrett don't have a code he lives by...let's see if he's got one he can die by...."
m11v20e:
"That thief thinks he just took Widow Moira's money, but without that money she'll lose her house, her servants, everything! Ol' Curtis is gonna fix it so he can't ever hurt no one like that again!"
m11v20f:
"After I kill that Garrett...maybe I'll find some of that inheritance money he took from the Widow. Sure...there could still be some left, maybe enough to get her back on her feet."

Ha ha. My favorite thing to do with the assassins is to lead them into the Hammerite area and watch the slaughter take place from the safe spot by the gargoyl (sp?) statue.

The Widow's reward of wine or revenge by Curtis seems to depend on more than whether you take her measly 500G or not. Has it ever been pinned down?
I thought I read somewhere that if you're nice to the Widow and deliver her the bottle of wine she asks for, you can take her money without Curtis coming after you. Can anyone confirm this?

that is true, afaik

Well, given that I have always brought her the wine, and Curtis still shows up every time, I'd say no.
But if you play on a lower difficulty setting (one with a lower loot requirement) and leave her the money to live on, you'll receive a bottle of wine and a thank you note.
