Well, given that I have always brought her the wine, and Curtis still shows up every time, I'd say no.
Is there any point in bringing her the wine, then?

To receive the bottle of wine and thank you note, and avoid Curtis, and feel you did a good deed.

Now you're confusing me. Didn't Solabusca just say that bringing her the wine will NOT prevent Curtis from showing up?

GAH! Sorry, Jah. I didn't realise you were joking. (slaps forehead)
And I should've typed a bit more, anyway.
There is one point (three points in one) to bringing her the wine, yes:
To receive the bottle of wine and thank you note, and avoid Curtis, and feel you did a good deed.
BUT...you can't steal her inheritance.
So...depending on play-style, Curtis may or may not be the deciding factor, if doing a good deed is low on the priority list, and wine and a thank you note are nice, but they don't really pay the bills.
Going further, I don't know if killing her logically negates a postive outcome, or if it's ignored. I wouldn't know since I wouldn't do that.

Ok, so if you're playing on Expert and need the inheritance to complete the loot requirement, you'll have to deal with Curtis whether you bring her the wine or not? I've only played on Hard, so I've never had to deal with this situation (I always felt sorry for the Widow and let her keep the money - I don't have much use for it anyway). My information came from a walkthrough at (

The choice is yours whether or not to take the
COURIER BAG (500, 100%). If you do take the bag, then the next day, you'll
find a thug hanging around outside your building waiting to cut you down for
your foul deed. On the other hand, if you gave the widow some wine, then
she'll consider you a friend and won't bat a batty eye about it.
Which led me to believe it's possible to avoid a visit from Curtis even if you do take the money.

what I want to know, is how come everyone knows Garrett's name and where he lives? Is he getting sloppy or is his postman a grass?
Jah on 11/12/2007 at 12:24
I've been wondering about that, too. I don't remember Garrett giving the Widow his calling card. Or the Hammers or Pagans, for that matter.

It is possible to avoid being visited by the thug on Expert. At least I haven't met him.
I gave the widow the wine, because she asked. I didn't know it had something to do with the money. Maybe that's why it worked? Maybe game detects whether you're being honest with it? ;)

Judging by the conflicting information, that seems to be the most likely explanation. ;)

how nice it would be to have a place that lists every side mission such as:
The Orincross Dagger (i.e. "I'm Garret, ain't I?")
The Body above the Tavern in the Docks
The missing Ruby chips
Jimmy The Knife in Auldale Plaza
The Widow Moira
and so on and so forth.
