hmm, I wasn't aware that the factions leave presents in Garret's house. I've never actually seen one(most of the time I side with the pagans) and I've never seen a plant around the house(and yes I was 100%allied with them.)

Me either. I wonder if it's like breaking a quest, only the player isn't told they are on one.
