So you liked it?

Polish mag CD-Action managed to get the full game on next month's cover DVD. Last time they pulled something like this was Bad Day LA.
Make of that what you will.

Too bad it omitted several of my personal favorite levels like that fucking kick ASS amusement park. Jesus that roller coaster!
That's confusing: I saw a trailer for this new version which included a lot of footage from the coaster.
Or did you mean the old X-Box version didn't have that level?

That video linked above is one of the most poorly judged pieces of marketing I've seen.

How fucking stupid do they think people are?
There is no, zero, fucking reason to play this.
And yet you bought it.

Head-to-head, the visual difference is minimal. Enemies are far more detailed but the levels themselves are almost indistinguishable from the original. A few new songs in a few new levels, apparently a lot of missing levels (I only played the first three or four to get a feel for it), a new weapon of questionable practical value and new cinematics that change the setup of the game somewhat. It's not terrible, especially for $20, but you can get PK Black for half that price, which aside from two-player co-op brings a lot more gaming to the table. And if you snagged it during the Halloween sale, it was just $2.50 - kind of a no-brainer.

I also bought Doom3 BFG ed. Your point?

So obviously the new version more or less sucks as a single-player replacement for the Black edition of the original.
Co-op seems like the major reason to buy this; what's that like?
After all, I've had a blast with some other old-school co-op FPSs, so surely this could provide a similarly good time?

I believe that boxing glove should be directed at my crotch area and filled up with led. And 2 please.
Personally I found coop to be a bit boring. Comparing it to SS for example there seem to be less monsters to kill, killing them is a bit too easy and there aren't really big areas to run around and split the enemies with a friend. There's no way you'll get overwhelmed or surprised by any monsters because there's someone right there, next to you or behind you. To put it in a different way, the original was thought out as a single player experience and adding a friend in there is more like "let's just destroy that boss and see how fast we can do it" rather than "let's both have fun shooting things, you take that side I'll take this one". They don't have anything different in this game except a few changes in monsters spawns here and there and some areas done slightly different.
I don't know, it doesn't really work all that well. Not for me at least. Maybe if the maps were different... but then you're asking for actual work to be put into map making... and let's not go that far and strain the poor people. They had so much trouble making less than half the maps from the original already.
