I already own the game, but from what I've seen I don't want to play it until it is patched. I want the first experience to be a good one (avoided the demo as well). I've tried to follow all the posts, but I gave up when the flood gates opened. Anybody heard any bites as to when the patch will be released? I realize it will be released when it's released so don't bother with the berrating.
Thanks

All I know: Chris has said they are working on it, and Grey Mouser has said that Quick Save/Load are on the list.
Beyond that: When we see it. :(

My guess is that work is already underway on a patch, and that ISA will try to get it out as fast as possible. They can always release further patches, refining the things they've corrected or adding new, less critical updates, but there are some rather horrific issues that need to be addressed in terms of performance first.
If it were me directing the show, I'd be trying to make sure a patch that fixes the most important stuff is on the Internet by the week before Christmas, but of course it depends on how much actual work that amount of patching entails. Could be sooner, could be later.
As soon as a patch is announced, rest assured it'll be linked to in gigantic letters in this forum.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Whatever you do, be careful of what you post on the Eidos forums, like, for instance, expressing concerns over the crappy performance or anything else for that matter.
Your thread will be closed.
Fuck this game, it goes back for sure now. Goddamned nazi moderators. That was the last straw.
[EDIT] Hahahaa!! Now I've been banned from the Eidos forums. That's a first.

After spending a few minutes tweaking the living hell out of the ini file, alt-tabbing out of the game and going into my task manager and ending a few certain processes I've managed to get the game to run fairly decently on my machine at 1024x768 with all the options turned up to their fullest. I actually fluctuate between 12-35 FPS which is a HUGE boost considering how it ran beforehand using the exact same settings.
When the game is actually running at a feisable framerate you realise that it doesn't look half bad in certain places. The sewers behind the apartments were fairly neat looking, and the bar had a nice atmosphere to it. Still, considering how graphically simple the game is in comparison to other games that have come out recently...shadows or no...I still think its inexcusable for the game to run the way it does. Hopefully the patch will give everyone at least a little boost, if I can get it running at 20-30 FPS on my Geforce 3 then I can live with it.
By the way, I'm still playing around with the demo here so I'm a step behind everyone else. I plan on picking the retail version up as soon as I have time...which seems to be in short supply for me nowadays.

I just did most of the standard tweaks listed on the Ion Storm forum...I'd say what gave me the most substantial boost was killing off any unnecessary background process in WinXP.

They would have to ban anyone who posts anything in the technical assistance or DX:IW discussion forums then...
