I actually think the physics-defying building are quite well integrated into the game mythos. It's all about obedience and humility vs. independence from any rules (and, at the same time, the mind vs. the body) - and the weird buildings are an example of the latter. The main aim of the Bachelor is to defeat death - also a law of nature. So to me it all fits very well. That's the beauty of the world in Pathologic - even though it seems a bit arbitrarily constructed at first, later you realise that everything has its place there, and is necessary.
I understood what they wanted to do and I thought it was a good idea, just that the independence from all the rules could have been done in a more decent way, not huge buildings sitting on one corner at 45 degrees towards the sky.

Really?
Yes, in the sense that
1. It's not that great in terms of gameplay,
2. Its plot has a nice fragment on the nature of games as such.
But you've made me admire my 'about what gaming is about' bit. Well, I'll have to work on my English style&grammar.

I liked the scavenging aspect (rummaging thru cans to find needles you can trade for bullets with little girls >.o ). Graphics are kinda.....crude but compared with the pretty good music (imho) and funky buildings all over the place it added together to some pretty weird creepo charm. Can only repeat whats been said already tho :
1. Repetitive (Bullets trading gets boring, also you got a hunger meter and a disease meter, go figure)
2. Bad Combat (especially melee. After day two you got robber types on the streets and my only way to defeat them without taking a major beating was to wait until they attacked someone else then stab em in the back while they were busy. No they dont react until their original target is dead)
3. Bad translation. I played until day 4 or so and i basically understood shit.
Theres some game buried inside all the oddities but it was too big a pile for me to bother to burrow into i guess :p

There are a hundred threads about this game over the last several years. Everybody has pretty much said everything about it.
Quoted for the goddamn truth. Just reading the thread title made my brow crease. I'm tired of reading posts about the English translation every time this topic comes up, too.
But I'm all for intelligent discussion, and this thread seems to have quite a bit of that apart from the complaints.

Fair enough.
