Having trouble with that note inside the vault. I counted the stairs but what gear is it referring to? A flat out answer would be appreciated.

Hmmm... I am close to the end and have a few questions.

Air mail: what is the switch for the red light near the bats good for ?
I assume I need to escape via the roof. But how? Do I need to find something?

You don't need necessarily go to the balcony. There is a button, that's all. The guard with the key appears later.

I guess the switch for the red light near the bats is for the red light. That's all it seems to do.
And your second question is already answered in post #45.

mission 3 secrets :

1. Capellan's bedroom, green wall
2. Laundry
3. Department of Education, 2nd class room
4. in the revealed secret corridor in class room (secret 3)
5. corridor, leading from living quarters to tower
6. corridor, leading from living quarters to tower, under other flight of stairs
7. main building, lower floor, commandant's room, near desk OR corridor, darker part, near security dept.

+ 2 things:

1.) don't forget to pick up the monastery maps while visiting capellan's study. On expert, they are hard to find. Not necessary for proceeding, but if you have got them, orientation will be much much easier later in 7th mission.

2.) stop for a little reading in archive, there is a book which is needed to be read for something plus in a later mission ("Patriot").
