The argument whether Dark Souls ESRB rating is warranted is moot for me … If I can only purchase one copy from Amazon with my voucher then I'M KEEPING IT ALL FOR MYSELF!
I'm waiting to see if Dad's OK with Bioshock 1 & 2, cuz if I use another voucher and split up the triple pack bundle, I can keep Bioshock Infinite for $5!

Noooo don't do that. Bioshock 1 and 2 are not kid-friendly (and also Bioshock Infinite isn't worth it either.)

Thanks for everyone's help. I've saved the list to keep an eye on future charity bundles!

Rayman Origins / Legends?

I play Cave Story with my nephews. So I'd recommend that.

I can't believe I forgot these two. I'm seconding this suggestion.

Any Trackmania game. There can be an element of frustration to them, but I strongly doubt it's anything that a 12 year old couldn't handle (and if you stick with bronze medals then the games are really pretty easy).

+1, a Trackmania game is an excellent recommendation. Immediately accessible (no 'depth barrier' for a casual gamer), very fun, playable in small, self-contained segments and increasingly challenging.

Dark Souls was difficult for me as a seasoned gamer of twenty years - I'd have hated it as a 12 year old.
+1 for any of the Civilization games. Definitely sparked my interest in history as a young lad.
Final Fantasy VII was also awesome at that time in my life, but I imagine it's too old school for the kids these days.
Half Life 2 has pretty horrific violence when it came to Ravenholm...

Maxis Sim games, Civilization, RTS and other similar strategy/simulation games enthralled for hundreds of hours as a pre-teen.
From GOG:-
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
SimCity 2000
From Steam:-
SimCity 4
X-COM classics bundle
From anywhere:-
XCOM Enemy Unknown (2012) + Enemy Within expansion
Civilization V Gold (inc. Gods & Kings expansion) + Brave New World expansion
Total War games
Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection
Starcraft warchest
When I was OP's nephews everyone was playing Counter-Strike. The modern incarnation, Global Offensive, is a fabulous game. CS:GO is an easy recommendation and highly affordable.

By age 12 I'd been exposed to much worse. There's no need to mollycoddle someone of that age from ANYTHING in HL2.

Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City ... The violence may not be "cartoony" enough ... and then there's Harley Quinn to explain.Harley Quinn was created for a 1990's kids cartoon, try harder. More stripperific outfits in the Arkham games aside, she's the same character from Batman: The Animated Series. The goons' taunts directed at Catwoman in Arkham City are an entirely different kettle of fish however.
