In the FYI category - Just got my October (!) issues of PC Gamer, and they have their (I believe) annual version of the 100 greatest PC games of all time. Here's the TTLG highlights:
72 - Oblivion
70 - Stalker
59 - Fallout New Vegas
42 - Witcher 2
39 - Fallout
32 - Dishonored
31 - Thief 2
28 - Fallout 3
22 - System Shock 2
17 - DXHR
13 - Bioshock Infinite
And the top ten...
10 - Dark Souls
9 - Portal
8 - Mass Effect 3
7 - Team Fortress 2
6 - Xcom Enemy Unknown
5 - Bioshock
4 - Deus Ex
3 - Half Life 2
2 - Skyrim
1 - Mass Effect 2
The only one I'm going to really debate is putting BI at #13, I don't see how you put that thing anywhere near the top ten. Of all time! And ahead of all those other great games in the list above.

Don't necessarily agree with the games in the top 10 or the order of where they placed things overall, but I don't find it a massive travesty either.
Looking at my top 50 on favlist, I have BioShock 2 at 37th, Infinite 40th, and the first one 43rd. I also have Mass effect 2 at 24th, which seems low to me after recently replaying it. 4 of my top 5 aren't on the list you posted, which is interesting.

I don't care quite as much as I used to about these things. Which is good really (but is it maturity or ennui? You decide!)
Still it does fascinate me what they pick. The perennial thing of making Thief disappear or be merged in spirit with Thief 2 has been going on since forever so I can't really complain. But I think people do really think the 2 in System Shock 2 is clever marketing and not evidence of a series.
The line gets kind of blurred in recent times between what is a PC game and not one. I would like to see an extremely ruthless and exclusive list some time that excises all the tedious ports like Bioshock. Just to see what would happen.
The cases for what's in and what's out would get interesting. More than the actual ranking I suspect.

Top X <whatever> lists tend to be click-bait anyway. In this case it seems like a "buy our magazine, then discuss the list on our forum (so we can get ad revenue from both)"-thing.

Yep, and it doesn't even have to be even number and it doesn't even have to have the "top" X. Gotta hate all those "37 make up flaws people usually make", "21 scariest moments in movies", "30 new hot pics of Anorexina Glamourton", top 30 of this and that all over the place.
