Re: Thief 2 being on that list. I'm obviously a massive fan of Thief and I'm happy that it is recognised as being one of the top game on the PC, regardless of how high on the list it is (well, 100 would be way out imho, but thats me). I think they've selected games that do what they do especially well for one reason or another. I can't speak for all the stuff on there because I haven't played it but I damn well know why SS2 is above BioShock despite both getting good reviews in PC Gamer and having identical scores (92%).
PC Gamer respect pedigree as well as refinement. In recent years I've disagreed with them more than I used to (I thought BioShock was overproduced, insubstantial junk but then I loved SS2 and well see Zero Punctuation's vid review of BS for all you need to know) but it's the top 100s they come out with (which change alot btw, and that is part of the point) that give me faith in them.
Thief 2 being in the top 10 tells us that they respect what it tried to do and also that they don't think anyone has topped it in its niche. Which I can dig because I feel the same.

The fact that it is a specific list is what makes it interesting because of the reasons I've stated above. Its a list with a purpose, a mission. Its a list about gaming, not just about games.
Whining is fine if there is a reason for it. You suggested whining for its own sake which is fine if you're a cat...

I think any ranked list is kind of stupid anyway; I can easily list some the games I've enjoyed and would recommend to others, but ranking them in order? It just doesn't really work. Each have their own merits and flaws, and cater to a different kind of gaming experience.

He starts the review by saying it's probably his game of the year, then explains that he has to shit on it because that's what people watch his videos for. He digs into the things that are wrong with it, just as basically every other person who likes the game has a million times over, but that doesn't change the fact that he actually liked the game.
