More like someone reads PC Gamer.
...is there actually an article on that? Surely there are some limits, even for wikipedos?

Didn't PC Gamer give Max Payne 95%?
Certainly, back in the day when I read it, they gave a lot of very average games, best-game-ever reviews.
Also MONB, did Edge do that recently? I haven't read it for about 18 months but I remember a while back they dropped scores for one issue as an experiment. I didn't realise they'd done it for a longer period. I might have started buying it again!

No, we're thinking of the same incident. But in my head they did it for longer than one issue. I guess I'm misremembering :)

Hey, Max Payne may be a somewhat repetitive super-seller, but IMHO it's still one of the best 'big name' games of the last few years...there just wasn't much else like it (I can't think of any other Film Noir games...though I have heard of Discworld Noir, I don't think it came to the states).

It's a very entertaining game. In most cases, that's probably the best you can hope for. Everyone should be happy if Oblivion turns out to be as fun. At least there will be a lot less trudging about thanks to the new map/fast travel system.

I don't mind the percentage scores, but it just irritates me when a magazine refers to a game like Max Payne as "the most important PC game ever" (as one mag did).
I have nothing against Max Payne (it's a fine game), but people who write things like that can just ^&#* right off, I say.

PC Gamer has never been...erm...unbiased in thier reviews. They are a paid magazine by the publishers. I think the game will be good but I don't think it'll be the best game ever or even close to it.

Yeah, I wasn't having a go at Max Payne really. It's a good game. It's just not a 95% game!
PC Gamer was just so excitable when I used to buy it.
It was basically the NME of videogaming.

I agree that PC Gamer is very dependent game medium, often not objective at all.

I think the initial community response will be most instructive - after the excitement has worn off and some people have got into it a bit.
