Well the local Software Etc I preordered through says they'll have the game in by 3:30 today, so it looks like I'm nerding tonight.
I'm not too worried about how it will run on my machine (Intel P4 3.4 ghz, 1.5 gigs of RAM, GeForce 6800) although I fully expect I'll have to scale a few things back to get a good frame rate. I even did a full format and OS reinstall to get things running as smoothly as possible.
I approach this game with enthusiastic optimism, but I give it a 50-50 chance of being nothing more than a next generation Morrowind, which would force me to forever swear off Bethesda altogether.

Yep. After putting in five hours I can fairly safely say if you didn't like Morrowind you won't like Oblivion. A few cool things have happened but so far it's got identical flaws.

My system is almost identical to yours, Stitch, how's the performance on your rig? You running everything maxed out?

The only magazine I read is the teletext one on channel 4 , you might not always agree with them, but you're guaranteed a fair opinion.
Also worth noting, for those who watch Cybernet. They use the same reviews from Gamespot. Bad enough the VO guy sounds like a complete ass, the reviews arn't even thier own.

Oh dear. I wonder what sort of rig the demo videos were taken on?

Thank god - this means I won't have to get it until I upgrade everything else, probably not until the end of the year. I don't need ANOTHER 200 hour game - I'm still playing Morrowind!
