I hate isometric RPG's, so the fact I like it at all is probably a testament to how good it is. Same with Torment.

In b4 catbarf
Seriously though, STALKER is like one big exercise in great ideas poorly executed or not executed at all, and full of bugs at that. Of course I am talking about the vanilla, throw in several mods and it becomes an awesome game, but if anything this only adds to the feeling of mediocrity of the original.

from your viewpoint you are right ;)
do you mean with vanilla STALKER the released version ?
the one before the first patch which made the game "start"able ?
then you right 3times.
but Vanilla stalker with the 1.0001 patch was very good imo and lucky me, I never had any game-breaking bugs in any of the versions. CTD, yeah, but no "you cannot proceed because NPC x is dead or you are stuck in the ground"
Quake and Doom certainly benefitted from mods as well and I would go as far as to say that a game triggering thousands of mods and making hundreds of gamers part-time hobby modders must be very good in the first place.
no, actually, you did not convince me. Many games I played were polished as hell, flawlessly executed, almost bugfree out of the box (you can forget that as an criterion these days) and they still can't hold a candle to STALKER.
I won't mention no game names to avoid derailing the thread even more.
sorry to the others NOT wanting to hear about my man-crush on STALKER again.

I've also played games that were polished and bugfree out of the box that DID hold a candle to STALKER. Good ideas are not an excuse for poor execution, as Peter Molyneaux consistently discovers to his cost these days.

Except STALKER without mods is barely above average game.
Wow. You
fucking fail. 100% raw Stalker 1.0000 was just fine. No, I wouldn't want to do that again, but it wasn't a BAD game by any means.
Take your shit tinted glasses off, Koki. We're all getting a little tired of your griping.
