Risen wins for me, as the only game from 2009 that I've played.
Edit: Oh, Mirror's Edge was just barely 2009. Still, Risen wins.

That is the most abominable listing I've ever seen and it's laughable to think people are going to choose that many things in a best of list.

Making people pay for extras is many things, but tactless isn't one of them. Especially if you give them the tools to make what they want themselves.
Putting a DLC salesman in the party camp, offering quests which cost $7 to accept, thus totally breaking immersion - that's saying fuck tact.

Borderlands is very quickly becoming my favourite game I've first-played all year. This includes older games I was late to the party for, like Dead Rising. And Fallout 3, amazingly enough, which is a very close runner-up.

My 2009 in gaming (for games at least worth mentioning) was pretty much a year of :
* a couple pretty distractions (Dead Space & Batman AA)
* a lot of indie discoveries (Zeno Clash, Torchlight, Trine, Canabalt, Minecraft, Saira, Blueberry Garden, Machinarium, Don't look back, etc.)
* unexpected artful experiences (Cryostasis, The Void)
* and a satisfyingly obsessive finale with the only two 'traditional' PC games I played (The Witcher EE and Call of Pripyat)
As for game of 2009, CoP hands down.
A few notable points :
* I don't recall playing anything memorable on my DS this year. Maybe I'm too jaded, but the latest Zelda & Layton were nice but forgotten quickly. For shame.
Exception: Mario & Luigi - Bowser's Inside Story
* I haven't played any oldies or emulated games in 2009, or almost. Funny how getting a new job, a different life changes one's attitude towards gaming.
Exception: Thief FMs
* Independent games are moving towards the front of the scene, so are eastern development studios. I'm now counting on both of them and no one else for the future of my gaming.
Exception: Valve
