I still need to play Deus-Ex and see if it actually deserves that position.
Dude! HELL YES!!! Deus Ex more than deserves top dog!
It's the only game I played THREE times back to back!
(to play all 3 endings!)

It was probably only written like that because ...
I distinctly remember a number of reviewers commenting that T1's graphics were poor at the time it came out. IIRC, LGS staff even mentioned the renderer in a list of "what went wrong" in their gamasutra post-mortem (don't quote me on that though).
By the time T2 came out, many reviewers felt that the dark engine was dated. It's not like his comment is without precedent.

You know, you could have just reloaded a save from the start of the last level...
Also, what amazes me is how an engine that was horribly dated in 2000 has been ramped up to "only a little bit dated" by our very talented community of FM authors. If you sent Sliptip back in time to work with LGS, they wouldn't be saying it was dated at all! :cheeky:

Again with the graphics. Who cares if they're 'dated', it's the gameplay that matters not the graphics. I would still go back and play Thief 1 over most of the crap being shoveled out these days.

But since I was playing each successive time for the diff ending, I figured I'd take the oppurtunity to play other things diff.
Like not kill Anna on the plane, like go full stealth on the rebels and ko them instead of Rambo and killing em all!
(same for the soldiers on the outside of the sub base, the ones inside I figured were the chinese and other members of the bad guy coalition so I still offed them!)

I feel it worth mentioning that time and time again FM authors manage to amaze me with their work with the Dark Engine. "Dated" as it may be, no other engine has ever surprised me more in its ability to showcase new and exciting abilities.

Wow, I didn't know that PC Gamer UK uses so stupid and cheesy coverlines these days.

I thought that was standard industry practice.
