I always thought Thief was practically scripted from the old Magnetic Scrolls Game Guild of Thieves, in which you were a thief expected to loot an old temple, an underground crypt, a bank, and a castle (complete with a large library, painting gallery, dining room, stocked kitchen, secret passageways, dark side rooms, wine celler, plumbing, and pesky guards you had to sneak by) ... while all the while being the pawn of a secret group you wanted to join watching your progress.
It had the same mix of victorian and undead elements. I mean, it's uncanny.
Except that it had a far better byline: Why buy this game when you could steal it? Much better than all that's yours shall soon be mine olol ...
