Hi Nazo
Several things i have noticed about T3 (which you have also noticed) along with most pepps on here. Is T3 does require inordinate amounts of GPU power for any res above 1024x768 with any setting turned on.
That is ridiculous. Geez, when was this game made again? Wasn't it something like 2001 or so? I mean, from not such a very different timeperiod, I've tried Morrowind with some SERIOUS mods greatly increasing the number and density of trees (besides being too rare they have far too leaves and branches to be called "trees." I'm able to run it completely maxed out with smooth gameplay, and that game has one of the most inefficient 3D engines made in a very very long time (I mean, from what I've read, even Doom had occlusion! Lack of occlusion isn't a mistake, it's a deevolution...)

I found the setting you refered too, but it only says 'resolution=3' but what I want to do is modift that resolution which so far I have been unable to do..
Yes, this is the problem. That's how the game keeps up with what resolution to use. It just has a preset list where certain resolutions correspond to certain resolutions -- this is what I referred to as "enumeration." You can set resolution= to some number, I think as an integer between 0 and 5. Any other value entered in there would have unpredictable results as apparently the game was coded with the assumption that the user would never attempt to modify that file by hand. Funny thing though. Just about every other game based off of the Unreal engine just had a setting where you could put in width and height yourself, including the original game itself, so one kind of has to wonder why Thief 3 broke from tradition in such an annoying way. Anyway, if you really want to, play around with the numbers and check the results (ignore what the game says, use your monitor's information section of the menu to see what resolution actually ends up being set.)

And yes vsync has to be turned on in T3, having it off causes problems such as not being able to climb ladder or the judder/jerkyness you have noticed..
Well, I never had troubles climbing a ladder with it off. However, I actually tried the game first with vsync on because until now I haven't really seen a game where it was a bad enough performance hit to matter to me. Oh well, it seems that 1280x1024 with 0xFSAA and 4xAF with vsync on runs mostly ok with only a few slowdowns under certain lighting -- slowdowns that I think I can live with as they are mostly minor (plus, lol, I'm using the mod that lets me carry as many arrows as I like, so I have plenty of water arrows -- or at least I will as soon as I get more money.)

# turn the shadow detail all the way down (there is not benefit in this game to having it all the way up
Wait, seriously? I considered it non optional to change the shadow settings for this game. I mean, thief with reduced shadows wouldn't be much fun would it? Or are you saying that it honestly looks the same with that down? Eh, I may try it later on, but atm at least the game is tolerable if not running 100% smoothly. Oh well, either way I may try a little tweaking around later on. I'm still a little bit in shock that this video card doesn't simply blow T3 away even with high res textures... Then again, I was shocked to find that under the right conditions, Morrowind could bring a 6800nu to its knees, so I guess some games are just plain inefficient.

# turn bloom off - pretty but ultimatley a waste of time
Nah, I never even thought it looked pretty. I disabled it from the first day I saw the option in Deus Ex 2 (well, ok, it didn't help that the Geforce Ti4200 and Radeon 9600 Pro that I tried on that game both did horribly with bloom on, lol.)
