Pet Peeve: Boss fights that force you to change the way you play - by Poetic thief

Boss fights should utilize the player and character skills you've been using to get to them. That's not to say that they shouldn't mix them up, but if you've been sneaking/talking your way through a game you shouldn't be facing a boss that can only be dealt with by shooting.

I for one
like boss fights that force you to get fancy (when done right, of course -- DXHR not being in that category.) Teaches you to not get complacent. A boss that doesn't do that is just a hole for you to dump ammo/magic/whatever into that takes longer than the other enemies you kill. That's not really very interesting.
Seriously, start playing Dark Souls already.

That right there works for every boss fight. Seriously, all you need to do is save your taser ammo (and there's no reason to ever use it outside of boss fights since you can just use takedowns when you're in stun gun range) and then hit each boss like 15 times or something and that's it.
It's true, but the stun gun was entertaining, fast and above all didn't look ridiculous. I could never get enough ammo for it.

I was so annoyed with the 2nd boss in DXHR, I stopped playing the game right there and never went back to finish it. Boss fights are almost always the same - they usually involve finding some weak spot in the boss, attacking it, and then repeating over and over until they're dead. Stupid, lame, and not very creative.
My hope for DXHR would have been to have two ways to defeat each boss, one by force and one by stealth. Something similar to the way Garrett defeats Constantine in TDP would work great for the stealthy way.

Or just kept the original DX approach.
"Boss fight? Yeah, have fun with that." *runs away*

Actually, wasn't there talk at some point of the patch letting you skip them altogether. How I don't know. But did that ever happen?

Using those wonderful Steam achievement statistics, I see that only 60% of the people who bought the game actually finished off the first boss. That's pretty awful, considering you're only 1/4 of the way through the game. Stats for all bosses below, in regards to % of people who defeated them:
Boss #1 - 60.4%, Boss #2 - 47.9%, Boss #3 - 41.1%, Boss #4 - 39.8%

60% isn't really that bad based on the global achievement stats for most games I have. 13.8% finished the first part of Bit.Trip.Runner. 54.2% completed the training in Zeno Clash.
