Good evening, Godless fedora wearers! My non-denominational prayers/chants/tweets to some amalgamation of atheist-friendly
beings have been answered! The skullfucked, pulverized corpse of indie gaming has secured a stunning victory today with the much-needed exit of one of its greatest zeroes! Phil Fish has discovered that we are all BIG MEANIES and in light of this situation, which is
completely untenable to sensitive egomaniacs such as Fish, (
http://kotaku.com/twitter-blowup-leads-to-sudden-cancellation-of-fez-ii-934548588) he has announced the abrupt cancellation of the briefly-awaited sequel to his middling platform game Fez, as well as his departure from game development!
I (and therefore you) consider this a great boon to the independent gaming scene, which has been dominated by douchey white brown-haired hipster dudes with five o’clock shadows and a critical imbalance of self-awareness:self-importance. For far too long entities like Fish have been the go-to hipsters for anything happening in the indie game scene, at the expense of people with humility in proportion with talent! Fish's childish tantrum in response to being teabagged by (
http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/roj70m/invisible-walls-everything-and-the-kitchen-sink) the unvarnished truth leaves us standing at the precipice of a crossroads, where the scale is at the tipping point. We can live in a blessed nation, or we can live in a place where the real life version of (
https://twitter.com/orth_adam) Fake Adam Orth designs our games and we press buttons for sadness. Which do
you choose, gentle readers?

Personally, I'll take Matt Aldridge for 50 Alex.

Have to say, don't really know Fish, but Fez was 50% awesome/50% pretentious bullshit, so I'm pretty meh on this whole thing.

Fez was boring and repetitive, like most indie games. I lasted 15 minutes. I hope he runs out of Fez money soon behhhehe

Another fuckwit who is special because, in an age where making games is the easiest its ever been with the plethora of toolsets, he's spent years making a game that would have taken a lone Atari programmer 3-6 months in 1978.
Sulphur on 28/7/2013 at 11:40
That's a massive exaggeration, of course, because Atari games were several orders of magnitude less complex than your current-day 3D game.

I'd love to see someone like Phil Fish actually sit down and try to recreate, say, River Raid, using the tools available at the time. 5 years minimum, I'd imagine, and he'd have a massive headstart since the overall design would be done for him already.

I keep hearing (and reading) about that Fish guy a lot, but still don't know why everyone hates him so much.
So what did he do :p ? Or is it just that he's a pretentious douchebag?
Briareos H on 28/7/2013 at 13:17
His public interventions (speech & tweets) and attitude (appearance & communication style) are typical of both "hipster" and "douchebag" demographics, one could say he's generally precisely at the intersection of the two sets. He's made a moderately successful and moderately interesting game, but because of the lack of hindsight and haughty/pompous attitude that he's demonstrated, he has been seen in a less than favorable light by several gamers and journalists.
In and of itself, who cares: he's just an idiot who happens to be a game developer and it wouldn't be the first time. However, his childish behaviour is a final act of laughable hypocrisy coming from someone who is usually so full of it, making him short-sighted and insecure in the eyes of everyone. There's absolutely no reason to defend him but many people are going to do it anyway, cue internet drama.
