NO HE DID NOT.
The game's not even out yet afaik.

Why? We already cover so many themes and motifs, I did not want to bring race into the mix, it was not what the game is about. Secondly, I was fearing it would end up being taken the wrong way seemingly perpetuating some arbitrary stereotype (i.e. "why is the only black character in the game the one that does/believes x?") And lastly, it frankly made sense from a narrative-standpoint that they would all be the same race (or close). And I did not want to have the "token minority" just for the sake of having one so we can be PC.
Sounds pretty good to me.

Nope! In the absence of context (the game's setting is similar to that of Europe 50-150 years ago) his justifications come off as vague, flimsy and cheap excuses (such the idea that putting black people in a game is somehow bringing up race politics, which is like, my mom's brand of logic.) If he'd just fucking come out and been perfectly clear about the setting instead of being coy (and also playing a fucking martyr game with "you'd just call me racist anyway so NYAH") we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
SubJeff on 31/7/2013 at 23:39
When Fez was being made do you think that race should ever have come up?
june gloom on 31/7/2013 at 23:39
I'm not talking to you anymore.
SubJeff on 31/7/2013 at 23:50
You never do. When we've teased away all the nonsense and get down to it you always bail.
The fact is the issue of race should not even be considered when making some games and so you shouldn't even have to talk about, much less justify, not having a person of a different race in them. I cannot stand ridiculous political correctness and even bringing up race in Yakoobs game is just that.
You started with

The smart thing to do would've been to make a number of the cast non-white, not just one "token" character.
without knowing anything about the game and went on to say
Quote:
You're Polish, you're already racist
You were probably joking (I can't tell anymore) but the whole tone was just very negative. As to the game not being out - there is a beta test. It's really good but you won't like it. Too arty or something. I dunno.
I just think that the PC crowd come at it from the wrong angle. If a game is released and it's obvious that it's pretty white given it's context (like 90s NY) then yes, by all means take the creator(s) to task. But what you, and the artist have done, is say "MUST HAVE THE BLACKS IN IT" without knowing or thinking about the context, respectively. You can't deny that. It's coming at it the wrong way.

I love it when people get shrill and indignant on the internet. At least I would if it didn't happen EVERY FUCKING DAY!

Jesus Christ you guys, I'm not half as much the kneejerk liberal hooplehead you're making me out to be. Fuck, I'm ashamed of you all.
Also, I love the phrase "perceived inequalities" because it implies that there are no inequalities and everything is just hunkydory as is. That's good, that's real good, very red state.
You certainly do love jerking your knee, though, at whatever it might be. And while you're overly generalising my little prod at you, you can see why I said it, because you're once again taking that ball and running with it in the absence of a tendency to not foam at the mouth. You'd be a far more dangerous force for reason and logic if you came back with measured, level responses minus drama. It's an odd dichotomy having you fight for political correctness when you're joking about where people are from in the next sentence or calling everyone hoopleheads.

Kinda like the guy who's the topic of this thread - decent ideas, awful delivery. Thin skin too.
